It's standard (4T60) but the ratios may be different. I wish I could better

'88 to '90 should be the same transmission behind all 3800 engines. That gives you lots of possibilities at the wrecking yard.

Only the final drive ratio changed, depending on the car. All '88-'90 Reattas had a 2.97 final drive.

1990 Riviera, Park Avenue, LeSabre = 2.97

1989 Riviera, Park Avenue, LeSabre 2.84 std, 2.97 opt

NOT any Buick with a 3800!

Some 3800 engines are Supercharged, and 2 different trannys were used in Reattae. The computer in your Reatta will only properly control the type of trans which the car came with. Installing another tranny may "bolt-up" but may not operate properly without the correct signals from the computer in your car.

The 88-90 440T4 aka 4T60 transmissions are all the same except for final drive ratios which can be 2.73, 2.84, 2.97, 3.07, or 3.33 (lower ratios were usually with 2.8 engines. In general 3800s either had 2.84 or 2.97 ratios.

Buick, Olds, Pontiac, and Chevrolet all used the 440T4/4T60, some into the 1991 model year.

Every year had improvements, best to find is a 1990 or 91.

Starting in 1991 GM replaced the 4T60 in some cars with the 4T60E transmission (stamped on the bottom of the pan). This transmission is computer controlled and has no TV cable. I do not believe the "E" transmission was ever used with a "C" engine, only "L" and later.

Personally, I would never try to rebuild one of these transmissions, I would be a remanufactured one from GM. All are updated to the latest (90-91) specs.

Note: something is tickilng the back of my mind about an output shaft change between 1988 and 1989. Could someone who knows chime in ?

Reminds me of Intense Racing with their like 800 hp GTP, saying they need to be careful on launches because they break the input shafts of their 4T65-HDs shocked.gif
