I'm trying to find a reliable plating source for the grille and rear panel for my 66 Toro. I just got my grille back from a place and after masking off to paint the inserts black, the chrome peeled in several places. I used top of the line 3M tape for auto painting so I wouldn't think its the tapes fault. I don't mind paying for quality work but also don't need it so perfect that I'll be ill at the first stone chip. Please give me some input as Dallas is only a few months away. Thanks Pat

You're talking about two very difficult pieces to plate. Both have been showing up NOS on ebay with some frequency the last few months but if you're looking, there won't be one anywhere. Price for an NOS piece generally won't be any worse than a quality replate job.

My advice? If you can't find NOS, search the desert boneyards. Anymore I'm a firm believer in Southwestern chrome parts, and Toronado pieces won't break the bank like comparable 442/Cutlass pieces.

I've got both from Nevada and while good for driver, it won't cut it when you judge the car! I've seen NOS as well on ebay and had to stop at 1600 as my wife would shoot me. Is this really what a good replate would run? If so, I still need a lead to get it done. I've done several 64 full size restorations but I didn't think a Toro would be such a PITA. Honestly, these are the only parts that guys don't want to touch.

I love the Toro's - beautiful cars indeed. I used Paul's chrome plating in pennsylvania and couldn't be happier. He tends to be a little pricey but I can tell you his chrome won't peel off with tape on it. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif
