I just purchased a 1954 Century. Their is a hole in the intake manifold just below the carburator about the size of a quarter. The parts car I have also has the same type of hole. The after market parts I looked at do not have this hole. Is this typical fail point in the intake? Or is this the way they are designed? Is it same to run the engine with it?

Are you speakin of the hole for the vacuum line for the wiper/power brakes. in front of and just to the left (as you look at it from front) of the carb.that's the only hole i know of. and I would think it certainly needs to be plugged if not in use.
