Good question - hope I don't look stupid for asking it.

About a month ago my power windows just stopped working - both of them. I can't figure out why. Figure it's probably a fuse, but I've looked in both fuse boxes by the center and the one in the engine compartment below the airbox. It's possible I'm blind, but I can't figure it out, any suggestions, or did I just miss it? I searched the forum and couldn't find anything, and I looked in the online manual yesterday and couldn't figure it out either. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I believe that the power windows are on a fuse circuit with something else. I will check when I get home and try to respond with a better answer tonight. It is strange that both would quit working a the same time. does the passenger side work from the passenger side switch?

Looking at the 1990 manual, the power windows have a relay and circuit breaker.

The breaker is #24

The relay is in the circuit so the windows can be rolled up or down after you turn off the ignition (retained power) but goes off when you open the door.

The relay is #2 - J in the interior relay center.

It is also possible that the control on the drivers door has gone bad...it gets 12v first and feeds it to the switch on the passanger door.

I"m not 100% certain, but I asked my wife if her switch worked (well the passenger side switch...=) and she said it didn't - so neither switch worked. I pulled a couple of relays/fuses that I thought might contain it, but as far as I can tell everything else on the car works properly so I'm stumped.

I'll check breaker 2 tomorrow, it might be the culprit, not sure I tried it before. I'll let you know if it works.

Checked it today, I think it's the driver's side switch. Do I need a different one or is there something to clean, solder, replace on the existing one. The passenger's side window control works. Any suggestions?

If you want to follow along in your hymnal, go to www.reatta.net and look at the service manual. Section 8A-120

Take the drivers side control out of the door and probe the PINK wire for 12v.

If you have 12v then everything up-stream is good. I had mine out yesterday and there is no obvious way to take the switch apart and inspect/repair.

If anyone has done this let us know.

Two potentials with door mounted electrics, as Barney points out, check that circuit for juice. I've had a power feed wire fracture in the harness going out from the door to the body. How many times has the Drivers' side door been opened and closed with a car showing 300,000 miles anyway!

Second issue is with the switch itself, rain and car washes invariably sprinkle on these switches and long term can cause internal corosion. I've had issues with the both the armrest mounted Seat Control and the seat mounted controls on my '88. Not familiar with that later style Window switch but find it hard to believe it won't come apart. Check the easy fault potentials first before attempting to (destroy) oops, disassemble the switch housing!
