tbirdman Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I'm contemplating buying a stone guard for my 32 903 Packard. I'm looking for opinions on whether this would add or detract from the car's appearance.

Tom M Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Your louvers are already chrome so to me it looks great the way it is.
Guest imported_Speedster Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 I agree, Don't need a stone-guard on that Beauty. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />They give the grille a flater look, which it Doesn't need.
Guest Randy Berger Posted March 10, 2006 Posted March 10, 2006 Rick is exactly right. It would destroy the aesthetics of that V'ed grille unless the stone guard was also V'ed. I think that was a real protection when the radiator was out front unprotected and not behind a grille. But thanks for the extra pictures anyways <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The chrome is original on the grill so it's not bright and sparkly like new chrome, but it is in good shape for 73 years. My thoughts were to add a little pizzaz with a nice chromed v guard yet keep the original chrome of the grille intact.I guess you all want the chrome grill exposed which is fine by me.
DutchDarrin Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 tbirdmanYou seem to have purchased a car of quality.Installing a stone guard would be a vulgar thing to do.THE GREAT GRAND WIZARD1929 Willoughby Sedan-Limousine20, Rue TraytonParis, France

West Peterson Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 The correct stone guard is V-shaped, but I agree with everyone here, it doesn't need it. Too many people add too much glitz to Packards (and other luxury cars) and they simply don't need it. IMHO, driving lights and spotlights are also gilding the lilly, as are chrome wheels... especially on a sporty car like yours.
Dr Morbius Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Uuuhh ......... nice garage - are you in any way related to Jay Leno? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> ........................................Steve
mrpushbutton Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I have to vote NO on the grille guard. I like them on certain 7th and 8th series cars, but the 10th,11th,12th grille and louvers are such Packard perfection that I don't think it can be improved, only masked. One man, one vote. Fantastic car. You are to be congratulated.
tbirdman Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 That is the dealers garage. It would be nice if it was mine.

1937hd45 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 A stone guard looks good on an open radiator core, not one with moveable slats IMO. Your car looks fine the way it is, no need for suspenders and a belt.
Clipper47 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Stone guards look nice on the flat radiator years like the 5th, 6th and 7th series but not after that IMO.
tbirdman Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 OK no stone guards for this 32 <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />Thanks for all the replies.
