Bryon Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 I almost hate to admit this, but I thought my Reatta looked so aerodynamic, how fast can it go? I ought to get on a track and check it out legally, but I've hit 112mph real quick, late at night, all alone on a toll road, then slowed it down, since I'm definitely not wanting to get a ticket for speeding! It was not topped out at 112. Might anyone know or have any experience in this area? Theoretically speaking, of course!
Guest F14CRAZY Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 They're set to cut out at 125 mph. Can be overridden, but I don't know if you could ever get going that fast anyway.
Guest maybe2fast Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I got mine to 124 with an intake and exhaust done to it...
Duke Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 If you have the tcc lock up on wide open throttle and change the ratio of the chain gear to 1.12:1 in a transaxle with a 3.33 differential ratio it could reach speeds of 150, but who wants to go that fast . That'd be a really bad ticket.
padgett Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Well the first XKEs (1961) were advertised to top out at 150 and that was a 3.8 (later ones imported to the US had 3.31 axles and were limited to at about 135. Few noticed). This discussion reminds me of the scene in the "Gumball Rally" where the helicopter cannot keep up with the Ferrari. To force lockup you just need a 5v source, some wiring, and a SPST switch. Am not sure how much torque it will take, is supposed to unlock at WOT, but would put a few more HP on the ground. Also will stall the engine if you forget to unlock and come to a stop.Pretty sure the 125 mph cut out was since that was where the stock tires were rated, Rivieras of the day had 112 mph limiters. There was a 55 mph national speed limit at the time so was still enough to "double the double nickel"
NCBRIJEN Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I have raced up to 120 mph on the straight away... years ago...
Guest Reatta1 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Have mentioned this on another thread of the same topic here. I have had my 88 to 124 with the 125 flickering. Pretty much out of throttle at that point and also out of vehicleless straightaway room.
Guest EDBSO Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I would think that the record of some 550 mph would have been set back in 1987 when the prototypes ( I believe 3 of them) were flown from England back to the USA. I don't have any records of any other Reattas being flown someplace. I do know of other cars that have been flown around the world from place to place. So would 550 mph be the record?

Guest tempest68 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Slightly off topic, but checkout www.wreckedexotics.com website. Some guy made his Ferrari Enzo split into a bunch of little pieces the other week in Calif. going an estimated 162 mph at the time. Read the whole story, it gets weirder with each new piece of information.
Shelby Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 In 1998 I took my Olds Toronado, same engine and about the same weight, through the speed trap at Bonneville Salt Flats @ 108 mph. Nice ride at that speed but it did reach the limiter.
