Guest scott mich bca # 6619 Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 If your motor does not work, take it out and bring it to an electric motor shop and have it rewond.Scott Mich
Guest imported_JPIndusi Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 They show up on eBay once in a while. I sold one last year, a universal type made by Delco Remy.Joe, BCA 33493
old-tank Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 There is usually not much wrong with the motors....just need cleaning and lubrication. The commutator will need to be dressed with fine sand paper. There is a little trouble getting the brushes back but not that hard. Don't throw it away.Willie
Guest AWBE Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I just took mine apart, cleaned and lubricated it , put it back together and VOILA, it worked. Used to do the same thing to the motors which ran the screw jacks to lower or raise the top on my 1941 Ford cnvertible. I have never figured out why they made the top mechanisms so complicated using hydraulics, etc.
jaxops Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I have 3 different sizes for the Cadillac. I sent my under-car blower motors to D+M Restorations in Greenville, SC. They are cleaning and rewinding the motors. I may have to get some metal replaced in the casings. If they won't turn and you can't get them going, give D+M a call.
Guest COMPACTBC Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Hi Larry: If you don't want to try to clean a lube it yourself, take it up to Roy's Electric in Orange and have them fix it for you.
Larry Minery Posted March 11, 2006 Author Posted March 11, 2006 Ok, I took the motor apart, the problem seemed to be the rear bearing. I pulled the round brass bearing out of the metal fingers that hold it ok and after lubeing it all, when I tryed to snap the brass ball back into the metal fingers, most of the fingers broke off. O'well guess I need another motor for sure now! Larry Minery
Guest imported_MrEarl Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 DANG! Larry, if it's not raining tomorrow or Sunday, I'll try and pull one offa one of my 55's and send ya. Can't guarantee it will work. I guess I could test it on a battery couldn't I. Let me know if you need it.Am I gonna have to pull the seat out to get to that thing or does it come out from under the car. Either way I bet I meet up with Mr No Shoulders.
Guest imported_MrEarl Posted March 11, 2006 Posted March 11, 2006 Hey Scot Mich, what happened to your avatar and signature pictures. I miss'em.
Larry Minery Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 Thanks for the offer Lamar but don't pull one out just yet. Monday I am taking it to an electric motor rebuild shop. They think they can fix it or sell me a Japanese (ugh) replacement. Thanks Larry
