Guest toys Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 HelloI'm looking for a thermostat for a 1929 Buick 116" wheelbase model 27. My book says it's a 120 degree.Thanks Greg topan@hay.net
Guest Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 they are hard to find, and don't work well.they sit in the upper raditor, and open the vented shutters.most guys will tie the shutters open.your can get a inline marine thermostat thats for a boat, and cut it into the top hose if you want one.
Guest toys Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Thanks for the info, but I think your thinking of earlier models. I don't have any shudders. My thermostat sits in the gooseneck for the top rad hose where it goes into the rad. Looks just like later models when they put the thermostat on the engine. A new style thermostat will fit but the lowest temp I can find is 170 degree. With the old style low or zero pressure rad, I thought it might be a little hot. The reference book for 29s says it should open at 120. I thought about running without one but with 5 galllons of water flowing around I wonder if it'd ever warm up.
Mark Shaw Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Trust me, it will warm up without a thermostat. Just let it run for ten minutes before you drive it, and it will be fine. I usually have to run it slightly choked for a couple of miles before I can push the choke all the way in.
