dwmajk Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I hope someone has had this problem before, in the past year I have on several occasions had a hard time removing the ignition key ,only way was to move key forward as if to start car, then reverse key back to me and it would release,Now will not come out at all.I have a lock smith in town but was hoping to have some info,as to what is hanging the key up.
manikmekanik Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I had this problem before, with a different car. Used the "EASY" button fix. When the key was un-retrieveable, I broke it off in the ignition intentionally. No key needed to drive, not obvious to the casual observer, just ALWAYS lock the doors.Works great 'till you're ready to deal with the replacement of the lock cylinder.GM parts direct may still have replacement cylinders & keys.
dwmajk Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 You know that not a bad idea,I purchased this car for my wife in 1991 as a demo with 4,000. miles, I had to drag her out of the car nine years later with l35,000 miles she just loved the easy parking and great ride. then I drove the car only to cape cod to boston 95 miles each way, once or twice a week, so at l65,000. this car does not owe me a thing,I now drive it just around town to golf course and grocery store. So we can drive to cape cod in same car,it has lived on the cape last nine years so rust is starting to show, had to replace rear brake lines etc.ps. do you still have 1991 black coupe for sale?

It's on it's way to TX, where my 2 drop-tops came from.A convertible would be great for touring the coast, you should consider an upgrade to a convertible! Sounds like you don't drive your Reatta in the winter, anyway. AND yours would be a great daily driver, then parts car later on.I'm hot for another show-winner I found recently, so catch me while I'm still a motivated seller. Here's a photo of my 1990 drop-top for your viewing pleasure. CPI values have increased 8% last quarter for this car. We will entertain offers between the #4 and #2 condition values, (#2=$18k)<(#4=$8k) Car is solid #3 condition, BCA Midwest regional Bronze award winning car.
padgett Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Have had keys bind in the ignition. Each time a shot of tuner/contact cleaner has fixed it.
Shelby Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Your lock cylinder is proably full of 18 year of dirt and worn out key. You can sometime wash it out with a little blast of brake cleaner. Wrap a rag around the steering cloumn so it does run down the steering cloumn. Don't use to much. Then blow it right out with compressed air. Then a little special lock lube.
Guest maybe2fast Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I have had a problem... every once in a while the car will just not start. the key is sharp, the VATS system is shut off through the ECM, the car doesn't crank the dash will light up but nothing happens. Has a new starter and I usually wait for like 10-20 minutes and jump back into the car and it will fire right up and not do it again for weeks
89REATTAJIM Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I had a problem with the ignition relay one time only. It's located under the dash, above the parking brake release. All electrical worked, but not the starter. Installed new relay, worked fine. Put old one back & it started too.
Guest maybe2fast Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 oh and it has a new starter enable relay
