Guest imported_MrEarl Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 get your mind outa the gutters guys, this is legit.... I need info on a good paint stripper. I'll be taking some panels off the car so can ensure they are clean before repaintiing. Does Eastwood have anything anyone would recommend? Thanks
DizzyDale Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Dear Lamar,Great question,NO stripper seems to work like they use to.Remember when you would scratch up the surface with some 36 grit paper then brush some stripper on and the paint seemed to jump off the panel.NOT anything i have tried lately works like that.SORRY i have no answers.diz
mrpushbutton Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Mr.Earl, go to a professional body shop paint store and find "aircraft paint stripper" it comes in aerosol cans, and boy is it nasty. But It works. wonderfully. Be careful when you use it. Read and follw all safety precautions.
Shamas Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Comes in quart and gallon cans. Never saw the aerosol. Don't think I want to.Use generously and repeatedly, allow time to work, do small, 1-2 sq ft areas. Try not to scratch the metal.Jim
Rick Hoover Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Mr. Earl, I used so many different brands over the years, I've lost count. Seems like everytime you find a great product, they go and change it for the worst, or they take it off the market completely. What I have been using these past couple years is called Strip-It-Dry and it's made by a company called CMA Specialty Products in Philadelphia. It's one of the best strippers I've ever used. I buy it locally off my one supplier for under $20.00 a gallon, but I'm sure if you call CMA and ask, they may lead you to one of their local distributors in your area, or can ship it directly to you. Their number is 1-800-259-3242. Rick
Steve Moskowitz Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 So now I have no excuse to strip the '29! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Thanks Hoover! By the way, I thank all of you for your restraint in handling the topic...I was waiting for someone to jump on it in a different way and our friend Oxnard did not disappoint. His post went poof...a little light hearted fun is ok but the picture was inappropraite.
Oxnard Montalvo Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 A stick in the mud. A painted stripper was funny. Every vital area was covered. Is this OK?<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Does Eastwood have anything anyone would recommend? </div></div> "Well.. Do ya?"
Rick Hoover Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 There's almost a full gallon here Steve. We could get a good jump on the '29 tonight after work! Oh wait, you don't knock off work til 3 in the morning. What was I thinking? Rick
Guest imported_MrEarl Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Thanks guys, will let you know the results...Yo Ox, you "made my day" but as I'm sure you know this is the Eastwood of which I spoke. They have a great forum mainly aimed at promoting their products I'm sure but there's a lot can be learned there.
