Guest kevinshea Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 AT Batavia last year I met a vendor who offered his services to powdercoat various engine components using the correct buick green powder that he had made up. I can't find his name and hope someone here knows>
NTX5467 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 As the powder coating industry has evolved, it seems to have become more like the automotive paint industry in its earlier days when there were several "common" colors and some "special mix" colors. From what I've seen, most powder coat operators have a common pallet of colors (base colors) they offer, most probably due to what they consider they can sell the most of. Yet as these common colors are generally (or can be) mixed locally, that opens the possibility for them to explore certain niche markets if they can get the "end color product" right. I've seen some cylinder heads powercoated in "correct" Chrysler light blue, for example, so getting a "Buick Green" might just be a matter of getting the right mix formula (and somebody that wanted to invest in making it "right" and "accurate"). There might be some local powdercoat vendors that might do that, provided they get an accurate color chip to deal with (not age or heat faded). It might just take an accurate paint to match it with? The engine color market might be something they might not have considered.Enjoy!NTX5467
Smartin Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Frank, I think, was his name. I can get his info tonight. Bought a powdercoated intake for a 62, and it looks excellent.
