archie Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Can craft store cork be used to replace the cork on my 1933 pontiac sender? Does it need to be coated with any thing? Thanks Archie
Guest imported_Joe Kieliszek Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Hello,You would probably want to use cork from a bottle stopper ratherthan the composite cork used for bulletin boards..McMaster-Carr carries tapered cork stoppers up to 2-1/4" on thelarge diameter x 1-1/2" thick. A couple coats of shellac followedby a dip in some gas tank sealer would keep it from gettingsaturated..Thanks,Joe Kieliszek
Guest Albert Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I would rather take a modern type float and use that, with alls these new stuff they add to the gasolene, who know what it will desolve, as no on will ever see it once its in the tank..

D Binger Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 You can get new cork float for fuel gauges from any Model A Ford parts supplier.
Mark Shaw Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 You can drink the wine & glue enough corks together with super glue to replicate your float. this works for carb floats too.Mark ShawVancouver, WA.
archie Posted February 19, 2006 Author Posted February 19, 2006 Thanks for all the information.I'm going to try to adapt a brass float from a Hyster fork lift.It is about the right size and is just clipped to the arm. Archie
