Guest Rojo22 Posted January 3, 2006 Share Posted January 3, 2006 Thanks guys, I was guessing it was a 54, so that kinda fits in. It is in fairly decent shape body and engine wise. Wood bed is shot, but can be replaced. Anyone know where to check this thing for an ID plate or something that would be conclusive? I couldnt resist the clam shell hood, so I bought it. They advertise in Hemming's. BTW, having a copy of Hemming's is quite a help also!. 51dodge Posted January 16, 2006 Share Posted January 16, 2006 FYI, Be aware, The truck engines start with a "T" before the numbers. And the Serial Number was cast engine front left side of number 1 cylinder. It is also the vin number. A lot of car engines were put in after the truck engine was beyond repair. Guest Rojo22 Posted February 15, 2006 Share Posted February 15, 2006 I purchased a truck identification book at the local bookstore, and I am now convinced that this is a 55. The 54 model had three rear windows, one on each corner, and one in the middle of the back of the cab. The 55 picture shows the truck without the side windows, and just a single window in the back of the cab. The rest of the ID fits in just like advice here has given. In 55 the windshield wraps around a little more. It definitely is the 54 front windshield comparing them to the photos you attached. Those are some nice looking trucks! Hope this one looks like those some day. I dont know what is under the hood just yet, I plan on heading over there in the next few weekends and doing a bit of research on several cars and trucks I have stored over there.I do not have a copy of that restoration guide. That windshield is a one year only 1954 item. I have seen one or two of those trucks, with that windshield that were titled as 55's, but I am sure that they were very early 55's that were in fact left over 54's. And as for the one that you saw in the book with the small back window and the corner windows, that was an option, similar to Chevs of the same era.1954 Dodge, in my opinion a very attractive truck!! Locating of the data plate I guess would reveal some type of numbers that would be a help. I appreciate all the information you guys provided.Is there a good place that has Dodge parts for this year truck, or a specialty dealer that has parts for these trucks?Any idea what the production numbers were on the 54 trucks? I saw your name on several posts on the site I think you listed below. My name is Robert Johnson. I havent been under the hood in a while, so I need to get back out there and find a data plate and id the engine. I believe it is the 6 cylinder if I am not mistaken.
