I did a little searching and found that this truck is the 54 to 56 body style.

OOPS!!! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Thanks guys, I was guessing it was a 54, so that kinda fits in. It is in fairly decent shape body and engine wise. Wood bed is shot, but can be replaced. Anyone know where to check this thing for an ID plate or something that would be conclusive? I couldnt resist the clam shell hood, so I bought it. Now I need some leads on folks who supply parts and things for the year and model. Any good websites for these years?

Google a 1954 Dodge Pickup search and go from there. There is always Andy Bernbaum, and Robert's Motor Parts. They advertise in Hemming's. BTW, having a copy of Hemming's is quite a help also!.

NAPA can get most of your mechanical parts.

Thanks Reg and everyone who assisted. She is now sitting in the field with the Packards, awaiting an appraisal on how easy a restoration it would be.

FYI, Be aware, The truck engines start with a "T" before the numbers. And the Serial Number was cast engine front left side of number 1 cylinder. It is also the vin number. A lot of car engines were put in after the truck engine was beyond repair. A 54 may have a tag on the door post. I only know about '51 from experience. Hope that helps.

I purchased a truck identification book at the local bookstore, and I am now convinced that this is a 55. The 54 model had three rear windows, one on each corner, and one in the middle of the back of the cab. The 55 picture shows the truck without the side windows, and just a single window in the back of the cab. The rest of the ID fits in just like advice here has given. I have yet to open the hood and ID the engine. The saga continues...LOL...

Roho, Look at the attached photo of a 54. The 54 was the only year that had this type of 1 piece windshield. In 55 the windshield wraps around a little more. There were different rear window options (small or full wrap around) I'll post a photo of a 55 next so you can see the difference in the windshields.

Enjoy,Reg

Did you happen to get a copy of DODGE PICKUPS HISTORY AND RESTORATION GUIDE 1918-1971 by Bunn and Brownell? That book is great for identifying the different years.

Just when I had it figured out...LOL...I didnt realize the back windows came in different configurations. It definitely is the 54 front windshield comparing them to the photos you attached. Those are some nice looking trucks! Hope this one looks like those some day. I dont know what is under the hood just yet, I plan on heading over there in the next few weekends and doing a bit of research on several cars and trucks I have stored over there.

I do not have a copy of that restoration guide. I would love to get a copy though. Any good ideas on where to pick one up? Is it still in print to pick up at a book store?

Guest Stllrng.

That is a 1954 no guessing no speculation. I have one and have owned it since 1977. That windshield is a one year only 1954 item. I have seen one or two of those trucks, with that windshield that were titled as 55's, but I am sure that they were very early 55's that were in fact left over 54's. And as for the one that you saw in the book with the small back window and the corner windows, that was an option, similar to Chevs of the same era.

1954 Dodge, in my opinion a very attractive truck!!

Is there a data plate on these trucks? I have done a casual look through trying to find one and didnt see one. Locating of the data plate I guess would reveal some type of numbers that would be a help. I appreciate all the information you guys provided.

Is there a good place that has Dodge parts for this year truck, or a specialty dealer that has parts for these trucks?

Any idea what the production numbers were on the 54 trucks? Is there a club for the trucks?

Sorry for all the questions.

I took a second to google 54 Dodge truck and came up with several great links. I saw your name on several posts on the site I think you listed below. My name is Robert Johnson. I havent been under the hood in a while, so I need to get back out there and find a data plate and id the engine. I believe it is the 6 cylinder if I am not mistaken. I am going to take a few more pictures as well.

Thanks'

Robert

I just joined the Yahoo group you listed. I am a pending member. I looked at a different site I guess, it listed you as replying to some folks about information.

I wouldn't bet too much on that... this one might be a '57:

And this one still has the same screen in 1960!

Personally, I have never seen one with the wrap around screen.
