Guest tin knocker
I intend to replace the carb on my 37 Special with a later model. The new carb is equipted with an electric starter switch which replaced the original vacum switch setup. The present vacum switch does not work and I have a starter switch mounted under the dash. I believe the wiring would be the same but I don't understand what causes the electric switch to disengage. I would like to use the accelerator start feature but I am concerned about unintended starter engagement at highway speeds. I would appreciate any information on this as I am clueless.Rollie
rider
The vacum switch is slightly redundant. It keeps the starter from engageing when the generator fails. The starter relay is grounded through the generator, so when there is generator output the starter will not engage. If you are going to disable the vacum switch I would take the two wires that run to it and hook them up to a spring loaded OFF switch and hide it under the dash. Good luck, Rider
