ABS Brake Replacement

Has anyone ever looked into replacing the ABS with standard brakes. If it was done how much was involved including $$ and what were the results. I am a recently new owner and have been on the Discussion page and quite a few times and there is almost always a brake topic being discussed. I intend to have my Reatta for a long time but would like to feel safe driving it. I did change my brake fluid and the front and rear brake pads were replaced before I bought the car by GM. The present ABS works perfect but I would hate to cause an accident due to brake failure.

While it would be possible to change to conventional brakes, the cost would be much greater than it would cost you to properly maintain the brakes already on your Reatta.
If you have replaced the fluid, that is a major step in doing the right thing.
If your ABS were to start giving you problems, you can either pull the fuse, or disconnect the connection at the valve body and you have disabled the ABS, until you can get service.
As noted in other places, there are now complete ABS master cylinder units available rebuilt at much more reasonable prices than we knew about this time last year. In fact we know lots more about the system now than we did last year because of the efforts of lots of members.
I think Wally will agree that the Reatta/Teves ABS is much better understood. We would like to point the finger to a "bad" system but the fact is we probably have not maintained properly. We are just learning what "properly" is..
------------------
Barney Eaton Reatta technical advisor for BCA and keeper of the Reatta database.
