Removal of Horn Ring - 1950 desoto

I am having an intermittant operation problem with my 1950 desoto horn . I think the problem is in the horn ring assembly in the steering wheel . I would like to take this assembly apart for a good cleaning and inspection . I need any tips on getting this apart . I am especially concerned about the spring in this assembly . How difficult is it to reassemble the unit since this spring must be installed under pressure . Once I get the unit apart I want to be able to get it back together without much hassle .
