Guest
I am moving to California next year with my 89 Reatta. Are there any special emmissions tests or inspections in Cal? Do I need a front license plate?
Hank
Yes to both, will require a front plate, Smog emission check mandatory, inspections are random and done in sporadic roadblocks at times and California will TICKET for faulty equipment. You get it fixed or you lose registration. If car is clean no sweat and go forth and enjoy.
Guest
Are you sure you wish to move to California?
I am a native Californian and feel California is way too crowded and expensive.
But, if you must, your 49 state Reatta will have no trouble passing smog, which is a requirement on entry. Smog test are performed every two years in urban areas and exempt in some low density areas. Registration fees are based on standard fees of about $40 plus a personal property tax based on the value of your car. A Reatta should cost about $125 a year. Gas is currently about $2 a gallon and a two bedroom apartment rents for $1000-$2000 a month.
Welcome!
Guest
FYI - I was considering moving to So. Cali with my Reatta ~2 years ago ... found out that to bring a 49 state car into Cali, the cost is $300 (unless it happens to actually have the plaque that indicates Cali Emissions). Supposedly the $300 goes to help cleanup the environment ...
------------------
http://members.aol.com/gohighr/reatta.html
Guest
No more $300 fee for bringing out of state cars into California. It was found unconstitutional. All residents that had paid the fee in the past 10 years are being refunded their $300.
