We just got back to our hotel room after spending a great day on the show field. Great weather! I also had the opportunity to judge a group of fantastic looking cars!

Had a great time in Warren. Many varieties of vehicles, nice park location, great Packard Museum, not to mention the people.

Wayne: Met Buddy Brill. Earl pointed him out to me, went over and enjoyed the conversation.

Now, John & Wayne: Are you guys trying to tell me I'm so short I have to look up to tie my shoe laces? (HA! ) No way guys, no low profile here. (Uncle Sam had a use for me as a tunnel rat. Proud of it.) Made it home OK, John. Hope you folks did, too.

Karl: I-80? I took the Turnpike out and wanted to take I-80 back. My TR was parked next to Paul Mc Collam's '76 Ferrari. Paul is from Connecticut and took i-80. He said there was a 1 1/2 mile back up going into the construction. Both lanes merging into one. With that, I took the pike home.

Regards,

Peter J.

More like young 'n dumb with heavy doses of peer pressure based upon the teamwork concept as I see it today.

Back to the thread topic, please.

Peter, yes Cindy, Melissa, and I made it home OK. As always, nice to see you again Peter.

KRK, I was on I-80 in Indiana and Illinois 3 weeks ago. A TON of construction on the western part of Indiana and eastern part of Illinois. I think when I got home I referred to my trip across I-80 as the "trip from hell".

We got home to Virginia in less than 8 hours....turnpikes were clear. Great show with great location, and great cars. Food was great on Thurs and Fri nights, cooked by the home folks of the Packard Museum I think. Cook told me he had once cooked for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Clinton, General S.......vale....man with unspellable polish name, as a cook in the Army. He knew how to cook hot dogs and hamburgers that's for sure. My three favorite cars were: 1921 Kissel tourabout (original), 1936 Buick Roadmaster (reminded me of the "way we were" in the 50's) sedan, and 1940 Packard Darrin-bodied sedan (absolutely the most gorgeous car on the field and in the top dozen of gorgeous cars I've ever seen.

John and Peter, Thanks for the info, We drop off I-80 at route 69, then south towards Auburn, then continue to I-70 to Springfield ILL. I-69 is just inside Indiana, between Freemont and Jamestown. I hope this is before the gridlock! Karl

John, likewise. Nice chat with your family, too.

Earl: Thanks for directing me to Buddy Brill at the banquet. Enjoyed finally meeting him. His '40 Cadillac is a gem. Great that you and Judy had a safe trip. What I really liked about the experience was the cross-over of history within City of Warren to the meet itself. Went there not knowing a whole lot about the Packard and related conception. Left Warren with a great learning experience.

Karl: As John mentioned, the flood-gate is open with highway construction. Have a rather large account who is into the roadway manhole covers, riser-collars, etc. When I questioned them this past April why their 2005 production forecast was stalled, the answer was all the heavy rain in the early part of 2005. "Why repave, re-build roadways until the ground is stable?" Well, they certainly are making up for lost time. Have a good trip.

Regards folks,

Peter J.

We continue to have great meets, one after the other. Warren was no exception; it was really great. I agree with past president Earl on the food and the cars and the activities and the weather. That's two meets hosted by small clubs this year, and everybody pitched in to make them successful.

I drove across I-80 all the way to Portage, Indiana on Sunday. No problem and only 3 or 4 single lane sections.

Thanks to the Packard Museum people for the help they gave to AACA.

I couldnt agree more. The Friends of the Packard Museum chapter along with the support of the Ohio Region did an outstanding job. This was a great meet from one end to the other. The selection of vehicles was as diverse as one could ever hope for and the quality level simply stunning. Karen and I had a great time. A hearty THANK YOU to everyone involved. A special thank you too to all the great members who attended. It may have been the cars that originally brought us all together but its the people and friendships that keep us coming back. smirk.gif

Dittos to all the positives on this fine meet! The hard working folks who put it all together in a very short time are to be commended for being outstanding hosts. We trailered a Model T out from Norfolk Va and got a Senior so big congrats to Tidewater Region member Richard Hall!!! Warren had one of the best selections of cars I've ever seen. The variety was incredible! When was the last time you saw three pre 1910 Reo's at one meet? Ever seen an Abbott Detroit? How about a Krieger electric? The trip home was good - even had a chance to drop by Dave and Karen Berg's place to enjoy the car-barn(s). We came back via 80 but turned south towards Morgantown WV and them took 68 over to Cumberland/Hagerstown Md before heading south on 81 to Winchester and on home. No probs at all, even 95 South was smooth sailing.

See you in Denver!

For you Eastern travelers be aware that I-80 has a major reconstruction job in Northern Indiana and where it enters Illinois. If you are planning to be West Bound between I-65 and where I-294 cuts off north bound at milepost 155 you can expect some monumental backups (Like 2 or 3 miles long!) It greatly depends on what time of day you hit it. Morning rush hour commuter loads it down to a crawl while other hours it does move slow but steady. If you can plan an alternate you might want to be prepared. I90 into Chicago is just as bad when you get between the stateline (US41) and I55. Sorry thats the way it is. Stude8 (Illinois resident)

Stude, as a 30 year resident of the "Region" and a home owner in Northwest Indiana until August 15th, I can tell you that the stretch you talk about is ALWAYS under construction! The Borman is a night mare and probably will always be...long back ups are the norm not the exception! I will not miss traveling that road or getting hung up on the alternates.

Dont know if 68 is any shorter, but it runs past one of my favorite anique shops - you know how I travel...from one shop to the next connects the dots to home.
