scott12180
Hi all,Can someone give me an estimate for how much a Packard Straight Eight engine weighs? No transmission. Big eight -- 3-1/2" x 5" bore stroke.Good guesses welcome, too.Thanks,--Scott
Guest
I think the "big" eight 356 was about 1000lbs.
Packard8
I recall reading somewhere that a 359 with the Turtlematic attached tips the scales around 1100 lbs. 900-950 for the engine with accesories attached sounds right. Just the crankshaft on a 9-main weighs #105.
55PackardGuy
I would guess that the aluminum head engines weighed a little less than those with iron head. I wonder if Packard cared about weight savings with the aluminum head, or if they were mostly concerned with combustion chamber temperatures, which I suppose were lowered with the alumininum.
