Smsgtdaves
I broke my thermostat housing trying to get it off. While trying to find a new one I found out that the engine in my truck was the wrong one. It is a engine out of a car. The serial number on the engine is D2-I27722. That number was driving me nuts. Does anybody know which year and type vehicle that engine might have come out of? Thanks.Dave
Guest imported_woodwheels
Your D-2 is a 1936 passenger car engine. Between 1942 and 1946 Dodge had 5 sizes of 6 cyl engines for trucks 217, 230, 236, 250and 331. Yours was most likely a 217. if you have a 1/2 ton pick up, that would have had the prefix to the motor # of T-112. Other 42-46 prefixes were (217) T-114 & T-125, (230) T126, (236) T-118 & T-122, (250) T-120 & T-130 and (331) T-124. Jim
Smsgtdaves
Jim:Was there much HP difference in the 36 and what I should have in there. I'm just trying to decide if its worth looking for the right one or just trying to get that running and keep it.Dave
Guest imported_woodwheels
36 D-2 87 BHP @ 3600 rpm. T-112 and T-114 95 BHP @ 3600 rpm. The 36 charging system was a very inferior 3 brush, cut out. The 42 was a 2 brush current/voltage regulator. The rest was fairly equilivant, .10 more compression for the T-112. Any vehicle is worth more with the original engine in place unless you are talking about the top 5 per cent of the street rods in the country.
