harry yarnell
Is there any way to identify a convertible ('90) from the vin? There's a Reatta coming up in an auction; I know the vin, want to know if it's a ragtop.
Guest
VIN WILL NOT DISTINGUISH BETWEEN COUPE AND CONVERT. HOWEVER LAST CONVERT WAS IN MID 600 SO IF CAR IS 700 OR HIGHER, CAR IS DEFINITELY COUPE>
IF YOU POST VIN OF CAR YOU ARE INTERESTED IN< I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP BASED ON BARNEY'S DATABASE> BARNEY WOULD NORMALLY REPLY BUT HE IS BETWEEM TEXAS AND VIRGINIA GOING TO BUICK NATIONALS>
BOB
Guest
I am pretty sure you can tell from the VIN but I can't remember how. If you look up in the reatta data base you could probably figure it out. Just a guess but maybe the number after the first 'C' tells you. 1 for coupe, 3 for convertible.
Guest
semm is correct. The sixth digit of the VIN denotes the body style: 1= coupe 3= convertible according to "GM Production Options" booklet.
------------------
1972 GS 455 4-speed
1990 Reatta convertible
1990 Regal GS
