A good friend of mine was out hiking in the "deep" woods and found this lovely remnant in the middle of nowhere. I wanted to help him id the car, but I am not familiar with the 40's thru 50's Cadillacs. I know its only a front shot, but it is a four door, and what you see is the only picture I got. Close guesses would be ok too.....He said I would have to cut down close to a mile of trees to get the car out....Anyone got a heavy lift helicopter?

Hi Rojo22. That would be a 1950 Cadillac from the front grill, light placement and type of 'dagmar'. I would have to see the rear more clearly to tell you whether it is a series 61, 62 or 60 special. It looks like a series 62 sedan. Thanks for the picture. Those are nice cars but I think that shell would take a lot of work to restore. Still it is worth saving if one could. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

If the car is a sedan it's probably not worth trying to save. If it's a 61 or 62 series coupe, it may be, depending on how rusted out the floors are. It look like someone already took off the headlight trim rings and fog light lenses, but those are easy to find. Check to see if the car has a standard shift transmission. If it does, that's pretty rare for 1950 and would make it more appealing to save as well. The problem with a car like this is that it would cost way more to restor eit that it would be worth done. There are early 1950's Cadillac sedans on e bay all the time in decent shape for under $10,000.

After a little more prompting, my buddy realized he took another shot of this car with his camera. He did not take one of the rear, which would appear by your reply to be what is needed to determine what it is. Maybe this will help a little. It is a shot of the drivers side, through some trees.....Any other information would be helpful.

Thanks

Oh that did help actually...it is a 1950 Cadillac series 62 sedan. The 1950 had the carry over dagmars from the late 40s, and the rear door vent window is rounded like the Sixty Special, and unlike the squared off series 61 sedan. The body looks solid, too. Hope that helps! Those were really nice cars.
