Fred Rawling
I need to have a new ring gear installed on my carrier. Does anyone know of a shop that does that work. The local ones can not handle the fact that the set up is riveted together.
Guest imported_Joe Kieliszek
Hello,Couldn't the new ring gear be drilled and the carrier half be tappedout to accomodate socket head (allen) screws? They would actuallybe stronger and would fit whithin the space constraints of thegear and carrier..They can be used with lockwashers or wires (or both) to secure inplace.Just a thought,Joe Kieliszek
brasscarguy
Rather than using allen head bolts, I would use grade 8 shoulder bolts. These are ground to a decimal size on the shank. The carrier and gear can be reamed or honed out to accomodate a push fit into the gear and carrier. This will give you a much better fit than rivits or allen head screws. They are availible at any commercial nut and bolt supply. when you assemble the gear on the carrier, use Loctite on the threads and nuts, do not use lock washers as they tend to flatten out and losen up with use.Howard Musolf.
