Rich N 1
I am in search of a supplier for new starter/generator brushes for my 1921 DB Touring. Does anybody know where I might find some? Does anybody of some used ones with some decent life left?Rich
imported_RAH 0
Rich, These North East brushes are getting hard to find. DodgeKCL has a good ideato check local electric shops but one caviat. Make sure to get ORIGINAL N-28 copper/carbon bruches. Do NOT use all carbon brushes as they will work only for a short time before completely fouling up the commutrator and quit working. imported_RAH 0
DodgeKCL, There is quite a difference in brushes for an alternator or generator vs. brushes for a starter. The later must handle much higher current. The '21 NE combo is both a generator AND starter in one unit so the brushes must be able to handle both modes of operation. At least the two 'main' brushes. The third brush is, in fact, a solid carbon and is thinner than the others. Rodger "Dodger" Hartley
Rich N 1
Roger,Thanks for the info. Just to make certain that I understand. The 2 main brushes should be N28 Copper/Carbon brushes and the third brush should be solid carbon. You believe that my local rebuilder will understand N28 copper/carbon?What about size? Do you know where I might find the length of the original "new" brushes? Thanks for you input.Rich
