R W Burgess
Hi all, I got an e-mail last week asking if it's time for mailbox watch yet. It's was one of our own, of course. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> All editors get anxious this time of year. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> I see where Steve wrote earlier today that the car awards letters may go out later this week, or next. We usually don't get an indication unless around Christmas week. IS IT TIME YET????? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Wayne--The stress is killing me! Steve Moskowitz
Let's see A, B....hmmmm Burgess, can't seem to find anything. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Just playing with you Wayne, the committee met and I am sure you will hear from Sherm Carey shortly. This was also a very difficult process and not taken lightly by the publications committee.
R W Burgess
"you will hear from Sherm Carey shortly"....I sure like the "you" part of that Steve. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Yes, I realize it takes time. Some years ago, after I took over the newsletter from Earl, I asked him about sending me some of the other Region's newsletters as he was judging them at that time. I was a little surprised, to say the least, over how many he sent me. The wife was not happy. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> "Don't you get enough magazines around here without asking for more newsletters?" There's a special system the judges use to help them from becoming overwhelmed by it all. It's like one of the Directors said last year or the year before, "My mailman was not happy I took on this job", as he started receiving his "Batch" each month. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Wayne
JanK
Well, I must confess I did get a letter last week. I've won something but they don't tell me what it is, only that I need to come to Philly in February to pick it up! That figures, we weren't planning on coming out this year because of our work schedules and then the "powers that be" have to give us a an offer we just can't refuse. No promises, but I think we might be seeing you in Philly after all. Is St. George's back in business again?Jan K.Wis Region
R W Burgess
St George's? Good question. Pedro, or maybe Mr. Carrish could check like last year. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Jan, that letter sounds like something special to me, something out of the ordinary, I'd say. Congradulations. I'll be taking pictures. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Still no mail. Peter J.Heizmann
Hi, Jan...The building, of which, the proprietors of St. George's leased space, was torn down to make way for an office building, or, something like that.I'll try to make time somewhere to see if there is any place nearby comparable to St. George's.Regards,Peter. R W Burgess
Pedro, Jan, personally I think the room we used last year gave everyone more time to meet each other. The box lunches aren't anything like St. George's, but at least you weren't in a hurry to order, eat, and get back in time for the next seminar. JanK
I wish I had been able to come to last year's luncheon. We got so wrapped up in the stuff for the CHIPS program, that I never made it down. But I agree with the philosophy of meeting on site, if it gives us more time to mingle.Jan K.Wis Region
R W Burgess
I had the same problem, Jan. On the way down to the room, I met our now famous Mr. Moskowitz on the way back to "work" sporting his HVS necktie! I managed to take a few pictures before everyone took off. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Wayne

24T42
Well, it is almost New Year's. Has anyone - either print or web - heard anything? It has been disgustingly quiet here down South. Of course that 4" inch snow last week has just about crippled everything. Just checking!

Yesterday was almost balmy here-was able to go around in shorts. Suppose to get to about 68, so come on over I'll get the grill out & we can burn some burgers! R W Burgess
Joanna, As I understand it, Bruce's company has asked him to spend about 12 months on the "left" coast to do a little "hitech" work. California's a long way from Maryland. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Wayne
Guest BruceW
Joanna,My company is sending me to California to work on a special project for about a year. BUT..I will be in Philly! The boss said he will pay for flights anytime I want to come home. I already have it planned that I will be back for Philly. Right now it looks like Di will drive to Philly from home and I will fly directly into Philly and meet her on Thursday. My departure date(initially in November) was postponed but I expect to leave sometime next week.Wayne,Di will be able to be reached at our current email address and forward messages.. however, I do plan on getting a separate email address while I am in California so that people can contact me directly. I have had a lot of requests to let people know the addy. I will be sure to let everyone interested know my email address in California when I get it.I will still be on the DF. During my stay in California I will be staying in our company condo. This also means I should have a lot of free time since I won't need to worry about things such as mowing grass, shoveling snow, and other typical house jobs I do around here. Also the company is going to put in either cable or DSL internet connection in the condo.
John N. Packard
Bruce, Will you try to do the Horn from California or does that job fall to Di as well? I had a six week tour in Denver for the Martin Company back in the sixties. Eleanor and our daughter Laura were with me for the first month and then I stayed in the Ranch House Motel for the balance of the stay. We had a wonderful time touring Colorado while there and my interest in antique autos was stimulated by the number of well preserved antiques in the area. I suspect that you won't have too much spare time in California with all there is to see and do out there including antique cars. Have a safe and great trip and keep us posted on your car adventures!jnp
Guest BruceW
Thanks John,The plan is that Di will collect the information and photos here in Maryland (and rough write some articles if she wants). She will then send it out to California where I will finalize the articles, photos, format the newsletter, add articles, etc. Then the newsletter will be sent back to Di who will print it. AT LEAST THATS THE PLAN......

John N. Packard
This will be my fifth Master Editor award. I received a Master Webmaster award in 2001. I find the print medium easier to work in than the electronic. There are some really outstanding chapter websites on line now. While I was doing both I could use the same material in each one. However digital picture quality for the printed page is far beyond what is required for the web site. I spent a lot of time in Photoshop creating two sets of photos. I used Pagemaker for the Chesapeake Bulletin and Frontpage for the website. Pagemaker has a lot of built-in features that make it easy to do creative things. I don't find that to be true in Frontpage, so my site is pretty "plain Jane".jnp
