1931 Essex question

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 1931 Essex 6 and on the back of the transition there is an aluminum round extension with a short gearshift stick sticking straight up. Does anyone know what that controls? Thanks, Roger

Roger,

A friend on another forum just bought a 1931 Hudson "Greater Eight" that has a similar lever; in his case it controls the "Free-wheeling" device.

It might also be an aftermarket Overdrive unit? ( Essex' had ridiculously low rear gears - in the area of 5 to 1; would've been good candidates for a overdrive.).

Have you taken your question to any of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane clubs?
