riv2x4
I have a 64 Electra convertible that the right rear window will not operate. It is stuck in the up position. I have power to the motor and can hear it engage but no movement. Any suggestions on how to check to see if it is the motor or the window mechanism because you are not supposed to operate the motor unless there is a load on it. I just don't want to make thing worse.
thanks
Larry
Guest
At least it's not stuck in the down position.
I have rebuilt the windows in my 63 convertible, and I don't envy you your task. I hope you're double-jointed.
What do you mean when you say you can "hear it engage"? Can you hear the motor run? If the motor runs, I would guess the nylon drive gear in the motor is stripped. What happens if you try to push the window down while you have the switch in the down position? Does it move? The rear window is a pretty simple mechanism; it travels along a track while it rotates around a pivot in the front. The point is, there's not much to go wrong mechanically. Unless the motor's binding (which would "lock" the whole window), there's not much else that would keep the window from moving.
