Guest
I am having a problem with the brakes and turn signals. My turn signals keep blowing a fuse and my brake lights don't work. I was thinking that there might be a short in the steering column shorting out the fuse and this is also the cause of the brake problem.
[ 04-16-2002: Message edited by: sixty3riv ]

NTX5467
You might check all of the wiring harness looms and such to check for chaffed or shorted wires. The brake lights do run through the steering column turn signal switch and probably use the same fuse too.
From my experiences, when a lighting circuit looses its ground, it might cause a backfeed through the respective turn signal indicator in the instrument cluster (as the current seeks a ground). Might not happen that way all the time, though.
Does the fuse blow when you let the turn signals blink and on which side? That might help you determine which harness to look at. There can also be a ground for each side of the front and rear harness too--a total of four ground wires to check out. There probably will be one black wire per side that will attach to a bolt or such directly on the vehicle body.
Might also be the bulb sockets themselves that have shorted internally or something. Unfortunately, a methodical check of the harness would be in order. As a last resort, check the wiring harness from the turn signal switch as it snakes down to the bottom of the steering column too.
Hope this might help.
NTX5467
Ted "Wildcat65" Nagel
Not sure about 63, but the 65 switch is on the column closr to the floor, not in the steering wheel hub. there's a (physical)control wire that moves parallel to the column, I think this was because the tilt wheel. Anyway, check at the bottom of the steering column for the signal electric switch. Mr. Leonard Scott of the Riviera owners association helped me on mine a while ago. If you are in the ROA, they have Tech advisors. TN
