1917 Cuningham, model V-4

We need to find out a few things about this car.

Should the brightwork be nickle or chrome?

What kind of fuel delivery system should it have? The car has a very old electric pump now but there is an air pressure guage on the dash that's not hooked up. The gastank has only two holes in it now, the outlet and the filler. Should the car have an Autovac pump?

We would like to find an owner's manual and any information not found in the Encylopedea of Motorcars.

Re Cunningham, a very nice high quality car. Chrome did not arrive on the scene until 1927/28 in American cars. This car should be nickel trim, or, (rare), the owner could have specified brass trim.

If like other higher quality cars of that time, the gas system probably consisted of a hand pump on the dash to put air into the tank in the back. Then, after the car was running, there should be a small air pump on the engine to maintain pressure in the tank. Pierce and Cadillac were that way at the time. Later Cunninghams may have moved into a gravity tank, but I don't know the year. It is likely that even a newer Cunningham brochure would be very helpful for you. Mechanical changes through their 15 or so years in the V8s would be incrimental.

Lou...Welcome to the AACA Forum.

In addition to receiving comments here, you should check out the AACA Library & Research Center. The Library retains an enormous amount of information.

Go to the AACA main page, in the left column click on Library. There is a self-explanatory form to submit.
