1927 Model T ignition (?) problems

Recommended Posts

Hello you all,

we own three Model Ts and one makes trouble. It is our 1927 Coupe. The engine runs unevenly, on first gear it runs ok but in 2nd it has just a few power.

I have checked the voltage at the coils at our 1924 and this car. the 1924 shows at three coils around 0,7 Volts and at one 6.4 Volts with ignition on. This car runs good. At the 27 it shows at one coil 6.4 Volts and the other have 3.1 Volts. I disconnected the wire with comes from the distributor to the coils and checked the voltage at the end with actually attached at the coils.

Whey does the 27 shows more voltage than the 24 ?

Thanks for your help

Tom

Model T coils should be adjusted to draw less than 2 volts. When the bottom

vibrator is held against the metal pole of the coil, the point gap should be

.030. Ideally, the coil should draw 1.5 amps.

Go to www.MTFCA.com, look in the vendors section and find Staff-Ford. He sells coil

testers that are digital and very well made.He is very honest. He may be at the national tour in New Hampshire this week. Good luck.
