nearchoclatetown
I lowered my standards and went to Carlisle to see the Ford nationals. Mostly to see the Thunderbolts and prototypes. In the one barn Ford had a new GT40, but it was sectioned off so you couldn't even get a good look at it, security guard kept you 50 feet away. Anyone know what gives? Rick Hoover
Maybe they sensed you were a Dodge Brothers, VW, and a ex-Corvette guy and didn't want you near it?
nearchoclatetown
Maybe that's true Rick, but at least I would have used my Ferd truck key to scratch my initials in it. It was obviously driven there, wet and dirty, Mich. Man. plates. Just wanted a look at the new beast.
Rick Hoover
Doug,If you think you had a tough time just trying to gain access in seeing that GT-40 over there, you should read the morning paper.According to the Harrisburg Sunday Patriot News, a Virginia man was arrested over at the All Ford Nationals in the Carlisle Fairgrounds on Friday while trying to sell his truck. Police said two prospective buyers from NY were demanding a better price from him on the truck and when negotiations ended at 7:30 PM Friday, the vendor pulled a revolver from his waistband and demanded they offer him a larger sum of money! Now that is what I call sales pressure! Moral of the story: Beware of truck drivers from Virginia? Rick
nearchoclatetown
Rick, in grade school that was known as a double negative. Truck driver-Virginia. They wouldn't have had to say he was from south of the MD, that part was understood.
Guest
That's what I liked about Carlisle back when I used to go there. Such a classy crowd. I recall one year there was a major drug bust or some other such thing. The cops in large numbers with drawn guns finally cornered the well armed guy in his spaces, subdued him and hauled him off. nearchoclatetown
Hold on there Howard, I remember a major thief being caught at Hershey. I think the FBI was involved, maybe 10 years ago.
Rick Hoover
That may be true Doug, but I don't recall him being a AACA member. There is no way those two flea markets can be compaired with each other in how they are ran and the type of vendors they attract. However, I do have concerns with Hershey. I can only recall one AACA President that had the "nerve" to police that Hershey meet and rid it of scab vendors that didn't belong in it and that mans name was Howard Scotland.Rick
D Binger
RickI remember the time at Hershey that they sent two national board members out in the white field in a golf cart to look for hookers. I don't think either of them would know what to do with them if they did find them.Dan
Rick Hoover
Dan,The problem with that instance many years ago, was that they were not in the White Field, but in the Chocolate. Had those two in the cart stopped over at the Chocolate tent, I would had taken them over and introduced them. The first year I learned about the ladies, I was told not to worry about it and drop it, as they've been there for years. True Story.Rick
nearchoclatetown
Rick, somehow it doesn't surprise me you could have introduced someone to them. But there ain't anything at Hershey that compares to a Stolzfus ham and cheese. Did you notice that youknowwho hasn't gotten home, yet?
Guest
The reason they didn't send you, Dan, was that they wanted to see the golf cart sometime that same weekeend. hvs
D Binger
We had better watch what we do here. We wouldn't want this thread to be moved because we are having too much fun. About the golf cart - - - -I get lost in Sam's club, you can guess what it is like for me at Hershey. Dan

He barricaded himself inside his U-Haul and began assaulting the officers with heavy auto parts. He was escorted out of the place....horizontally with a sheet over his face!"I survived Fall Carlisle" t-shirts sprang up for sale overnight! R W Burgess
Hey! Hey!, I was in York, Pa on Friday in the worst weather for rodding that I've seen since, since? last year at this time. I don't carry guns either. The big "Peterbilt" emblem takes care of any problems that I might have. Pretty good show at York. I was car number 4783 on Friday at 2:30 pm. Those guys know how to make big money. They had excellent entertainment each night. "ClassAct with Rita" from Harrisburg, Pa, the best. Just to fill my AACA duties I drove my new "antique truck" to a cruise-in this afternoon. More about that later in the week. Wayne
Peter J.Heizmann
Hi, Dave...I recall that scenario. He started out from NJ in a ballistic mindset. Sadly, he pulled over in a remote area of I-78 along the way, broke into an elderly ladies' home nearby, robbed her, and, if I recall correctly, murdered her. That led up to the confrontation at Carlisle.
Rick Hoover
Hey Doug, I think he's back home now. Peter, He did the same to her husband as well. That happened near Bethel, PA. I remember that weekend at Carlisle also. First the tornado, then the snow, and finished up with the shooting. Rick
Guest
Dave@ - I believe I was there for that incident but it had to be longer ago than 12 years. I moved to Wyoming in 1990 and have not been to Carlisle since moving here. But I do remember the manifold throw. I think it equaled the olympic record in the manifold throw at that time. hvsDave, after reading Peter Heizmann's post I am sure we both witnessed the same incident. The breakin at a house ties it to the incident I witnessed.HV
