steve90
I'm considering purchase of a fairly mint 1979 Turbo Regal. Many parts have been replaced including a new turbocharger. The owner says that despite this there is a hesitation during acceleration. He believes its a timing chain. What would timing chain replacement and/or a complete engine rebuild cost at a reputable shop? Maybe I should stay away from this car, unless the price is reasonable. What do you think out there? Thanks !
Steve
Minneapolis
Guest
I'd look at a lot of things before concluding it's the timing chain.
Vacuum leaks are a likley one.
Also, if the incoming air is too cold, it will cuase a hesitation. This can be the THERMAC air cleaner not working. If the hose from the snorkle to the DS exhaust manifold is missing or broken, that's the problem.
If the coolant lines to the carb plenum (upper intake between the turbo and carb) have been removed or plugged, this will cuase a bog as well.
Then again maybe the carb needs rebuilding.

Take a look at the website in my signature.
[ 12-27-2001: Message edited by: b4black ]
