Help me put a 455 into my 66 Cutlass

Recommended Posts

I have a nice running 330 in my car, but it is getting a little smokey, and I have a couple of 455's. One is a '76 I think, in a "98" body. The other is a '69 also in a "98" body. The 69 has F block and E heads. I was wondering what the in's and out's are with this swap. Is cooling going to be a problem? Motor mounts? Exhaust? I would prefer cast manifolds. What cam and intake? The '69 engine is 10.25 compression, too much for todays gas, how do I get it to a streetable ratio? Will my Jetaway with switch pitch converter hold up to the added horses? I have 400 tubos, but I like the switch pitch. I am aware that 400 switch pitch trans are out there, I have one, but plan to use it in another car, I dont figure I'll find another, but would very much like to have another one.

Does anyone make headers that really fit, no pounding, prying, bashing, swearing, REALLY FIT?

Thanks,

Mike Phelps

straight foward swap, motor mounts bolt up to existing 455 mounts, i went with a built turbo 350 so i would not have to move trans crossmember, the jetaway i would not trust with the torque of the 455, hooker super comps the best fitting with out prying on them, stock manifolds from the 330 may work also, just need to run exhust, if you are going to do motor run the trw 2323 pistons, this will bring you down to 9.5 or so, 10.25 may be ok on street but will have to run the 2.00 a gallon ( premium )fuel as for cams it really depends ow you want to run car...it dosent take alot to get torque out of a 455...a mild build will give you a great stree screamer..
