Newsletter Judging

What is the criteria for the judging and awarding of the different categories? What is the difference between Award of Excellence and Award of Distinction and Award of Merit? Is there any way an editor can find out why a certain award was given and what improvements can be made to do better the following year? I will appreciate any help I can get to improve our club newsletter for my club members.

Thanks! confused.gif

Sadie,

The Award of Merit, Award of Disrinction and Award of Excellence are the ranking from lowest to highest in that order with Excellence being highest. The recipients of an Award Of Excellence are then examined with a point system and from those are determined the Master Editor Award.

The answers to your questions on the judging criteria and categories are explained better than I can in Appendix C of the Newsletter Editor's Manual. The online version is located here: http://www.aaca.org/Restricted/Editors/AppendixC.htm

The Newsletter Editor's Manual is a great resource for editors, especially for those just starting. Its a good source in telling you the Do's and Don'ts if you want to be a good AACA editor. Give it a look.

The entire online Newsletter Editors Manual is located here: http://www.aaca.org/Restricted/Editors/Newsletter.htm

Good luck!

Hope this helps.

Debby,

I'm doing this from memory but the forms should be arriving sometime soon. If I remember correctly the completed registration forms are due back to National by the beginning of May. I may be wrong so hopefully someone will correect me if I am.

Since the members of the Publications Committee have already been announced on the DF, I suggest you go ahead and begin sending copies of your newsletter to the committee members so they can be familiar with it.

Thanks Bruce,

I already sent them as my newsletter is sent the end of the month (end of Feb. for 1st of March) even though I was a little late because my letters for our club went out the 28th I sent the new people the letter on the 6th of March. My next ones will go out the end of March for the first of April. I be watching for the papers to come in so I can send them back.

Debby, Make sure your President or an officer of your Region sent in your Officer Reporting form to Hershey which lists all officers including the Editor-You! That's how Hershey Headquarters knows where to send the newsletter contest form.....I think?? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Wayne

My posts interesting? I thought they were a little dumb at times. I will say Tennessean Rick Lay made me feel good in Philly, in saying he really wanted to meet me. I never heard whether he was disappointed or not. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I was really sorry I couldn't have met everyone this year. Like another newsletter editor posted in their newsletter this month, the more people you meet and get to know, the less time you have to spend freely in Philly. Oh, and Ron, I wasn't even thinking about you being Debby's predecessor. I should have known better.

Another note guys. I know you have heard about my printer problems. When I finish the March issue this month, the printer goes to the warrentee shop. With spring almost here, I'm afraid we'll be attacked by new neighborhood birds otherwise as the printer is squeeking to raise the dickens, whatever that is. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Take care guys, Wayne
