Guest
I have a '69 Cutlass S w/350 4bbl and TH350 combo. It currently has the original "O" style rear end with 2.56 gears. I would like to swap these gears for 3.42's and would also like to convert it to posi. What is the best way to accomplish this? Buy a whole rear end at a swap meet (assuming I can find the right combo)? Buy new gears and carrier from Summit or Year One or some other place? I would like to keep the original type "O" rear end if possible, but will convert to the Chevy style if I must.Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.Thanks. Guest
Hey, I have just changed my 69 o-type to a posi. You will need a different carrier to change your gear ratio.3:23 is low as you can go with your carrier. You can not make your carrier a posi unit .You will need a posi carrier. If you have a 10 bolt, I would advise you to junk it. Auburn gear makes the only aftermarket unit for the o-types. If I had it to do over I would use a chevy rear end. Parts are a whole lot easier to find new or use and it still is a GM
