Guest Mr. Solutions
Hi
I've read in several publications, including an original in-car manual/brocure for my car that a washer is available.
However, my model does not have one!
- Is it possible to fit one (ie. an original) after the fact?
Thanks
Johan
Guest scott mich bca # 6619
Johan,
My 1951 Special Model 41D had one from the factory. It was mounted inside the drivers fender, behind the front tire. It was inbetween the front of the front door, and behind the front tire.
Sort of below the hood spring, mounted rather low.
You may be able to find one, however you may also need a different wiper switch, as I think the vaccuum to the washer was switched throught the wiper switch.
Scott Mich
Assistant Director
Chicagoland Chapter
1955-76C
1959 Olds SS-88
[ 12-08-2001: Message edited by: scott mich bca # 6619 ]
Guest Mr. Solutions
Hi Scott
You mention yours had one from the factory... mine doesn't have anything like this. Was this a standard component, or an optional extra.
You are correct that the washer works of a vacuum system, and if I ever lay my paws on one of them, I was wondering how one would go about retro-fitting it...? Do you have any pictures available of your setup under the hood?
Thanks
Guest scott mich bca # 6619
Johan,
It was an option. Do you have a shop manual?
There is a picture on the system on page 11-3 & 11-4.
If you do not have a book, provide me with a fax number and I can fax it to you.
Try Buick Specialists in Kent, Wa 253-854-7520 or Wheatbelt in Oklahoma, for a used unit.
Scott
Guest Mr. Solutions
Hi Scott
Thanks for the offer, but I do have a shop manual; mine (an original) is just called a "maintenace" manual, if that means anything different, but all your referenced page numbers match.
I did take a look at these pages, but what is of course **100%** unclear from them is where / exactly how the items, especially the jets are mounted.
A (digital) photo would work wonders in this respect. [hint-hint, nudge-nudge ]
Thanks again
[ 12-11-2001: Message edited by: Johan de Bruin ]
Guest scott mich bca # 6619
Johan,
Sorry, I can not send any pictures. I sold my '51 several years ago.
Perhaps Crin & Teresa Dima can help.
The post as "our51super"
Scott
