Guest DTerry
What does it do? By not start do you mean the starter spins the engine and won't light off, or doesn't turn over? What are the exact symptoms?
fatboy
Well the engine turns over, but does not start.
Guest DTerry
Well, that complicates things somewhat. What year is it? If it's an 88 or 89 you can check the malfunction codes on the CRT. I haven't the foggiest notion how to check them on a 90 or 91.
harry yarnell
Check for spark and fuel pressure. Third item on my suspect list is crank sensor. This sensor will affect whether you get spark.
fatboy
Its a 89. I have a binch of receits from whoever had it before has had work done to it. But i dont recall any about aprk plugs or wires or anything of that nature. so should i just take it to a mechanic and have them run it and see what comes up? BuickCollector
That depends if you want to diagnose it and try to fix it yourself or have someone else try to and have it cost you money. While the engine and trans. is not unique to the car, the electronic diagnostics are (both procedures and displays), which may lead to longer repair times and higher cost with a mechanic. padgett
Was a TSB on cold non-starting 89's. When cold, turn key to RUN, wait two seconds, turn key off, pause, turn key to RUN again, wait two seconds and try to start. If sputters and dies try again.Apparently GM was a bit sparse with the prime shot from the injectors and have a different PROM that extends the rattle time. Guest DTerry
Go here: www.reatta.org/1988_reatta_diagnostic_booklet.htmThis is for 1988, but it's basically the same for 89 - if not exactly the same. I downloaded it and printed it so I could take it out to the car. Try Padgett's suggestion first; if no luck, then check the malfunction codes. It could give you a place to start.
