K Howie
I have been searching the site for the answer to my question and have not found it - but maybe my concern is nothing to be concerned about. Y'all tell me - I understand that the paint finish on the Reatta is special, better than the typical car paint job. My brochure on the car mentions a hand-rubbed finish. My question is, is this special paint still available or do you just take what the body shop gives you? Or is it not all that special and nothing to worry about? Really, all I need repainted is the sunroof panel so it's not like anyone will really see a difference in finishes. But, I'm just curious. Also, to all the gentlemen who offered me exhaust and brake advice a couple of months ago, an update: it was not the exhaust system rattling at all. It was (and still is) the brakes rattling. Nic Walker gave me instructions on fixing the brake rattle, which I plan to someday use. The exhaust system looks a-ok. Thank you for all your info back then!
reattadudes
the paint itself for the Reatta wasn't really different. the surface prep and application quality were. the Reatta also received more coats of paint, both base and clear, than other regular production GM cars. this certainly helped the durability over the years.Mike
Guest Greg Ross
The Brake Rattle, I think, is at least partly associated with lack of a Foam Rubber Sleeve that should be fitted inside the Emerg. Brake Return Spring @ the caliper. Since discovering these fitted on the calipers of a '90 rear suspension that now resides under my '88 I have experienced no more rattles. And part two of that is the poorly functioning automatic adjuster feature built into these calipers. If, maybe you used your Emerg. Brake twice a day it might stay functional. The problem seems to be a combination of the outer rear cables that seize up with lack of exercising and the adjuster screw that doesn't!I'll be doing an Oil Change some time this weekend and while I've got the car in the Barn I'll pull a rear wheel and pop an image of this foam piece that quieted me down.Just finished shovelling out the entrance to the barn this morning, we had 80 cm of Snow Thursday night and yesterday combined with 100 km. winds. Converted that amounts to about 32 inches of snow mixed up with 60 mph winds. As I drove home last night I was, in places on roads only one lane wide with Snow Blower cuts about 15 feet deep-you really have to see it to believe it!And yes JJ, I suppose those SouCa. Sand Dunes are piled up about the same extent!
padgett
I have two delaminated spots, one the size of a quarter the other dime-sized, on the hood. Seems the surface prep was not always all it should have been.Earlier this week it was down in the 50s so we were snorkling in the Dry Tortugas. Even Floridians can go south. Guest BobbyBubba
Chemistry of the paints- have DRASTICALLY improved over the 20+ years since these cars were sprayed by PPG. You should be happy with new stuff!
