Guest
I was recently asked if I would be interested in renting my 57 Chevy to a local insurance company to use as part of their display for a trade show. The would not need to drive the car, and even offered to trailer it to the event, or let me drive it there. It sounds like an interesting way to make some extra cash, but I wouldn't know what to charge for such a thing. Has anyone out there ever done something like this, and what would be considered a fair rate to charge?Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Chad
DaveBerg
The movie companies generally pay around $75 per day for car usage. a local attorney did a commercial with one and paid $200 for a day. I suspect somewhere in that range is fair per day. But most important make sure that there is insurance coverage for the car provided by the renter. Your insurance may or may not cover you on a commercial venture. Even though the car is not being driven by them. Stupid stuff can happen!! Be aware and be smart about it. Guest Chuck Conrad
I think it is ironic that an insurance company wants to use your car. They may be the same people who will deny your coverage if something happens. Before you act, read your insurance policy carefully. If you have normal antique auto insurance, you are probably not covered. It is possible that you might be in violation of state law if your car is licensed as an antique, and you are using it for commercial purposes. Each state is a bit different, so you should check that out.Sounds alarmist, doesn't it? But as Dave points out, stupid stuff DOES happen. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

EdA
I agree, be careful about your insurance policy and state registration rules, but you still may be able to do it. You might ask the "insurance company" to issue you a special policy themselves for that day. And do ask "enough". $1,000 to $2,000 a day may be well in line. I've done one or two events such as this in past with another old vehicle. Remember, you will have to wash, wax, clean, fuel, and spend the time with it. I always asked at least $100 an hour and insisted that I drive it in and out - or supevise it being pushed by hand, and also that I "stay" with it. Again, depending upon the nature of the event, it may be an "auto show" or such under your policy. I've also used my car for "charity" events where a ride or such is given for a donation. In those cases, I don't get any money at all, but enjoy seeing people "bid up" the price just to ride in my car.EdA
Barry Wolk
I got $250 a day for a 2-day Ford shoot. I'll have to ask for more money next time. Mark II convertible
