Guest imported_keystone
Can some explain exactly what the settings do on the climate control system on my '90. I understand, auto, defrost and bi level. What do the econ and heat buttons do. Does heat use only heating system w/o running the AC compressor?I am not sure what econ botton doesThanksKeystone
Guest imported_JohnW
I believe "ECON" stands for economy or fresh air only. "Heat" is manual control of the heat temp. Auto is similar to your thermostat in your home which keeps the passenger compartment at a pre-determined temp. I may be wrong but this is what I was told.John
Rawja
Econ works just the same as the auto function, but does not cycle the A/C compressor.
Guest imported_daddy3jr8
Keystone,If you are driving your Reatta now, I hope you pushed the heat button. Wind chill below 0 tonight - temp. 4*. Econ is like the vent in our old muscle cars, but with some electronic sophistication thrown in. Reatta is an electronic wonder car. You wonder if you will ever figure it all out. Wife found out you better remove key before opening and locking the door. Alarm went off on her twice ( very ^%##*@ ) and had to call me as to what to do. Finally figured out what she did to set it off. Is this common to other Reattas? Alarm will go off if you open door and push lock button before you remove the key. Horn and lights start when you close the door. Works fine all other times.Got my remote today. Asked for ABO0702T and got ABO0104T - three button - lock, unlock, and trunk. Will it work? Don't know if the receiver unit works, so I could tell if remote not compatable. Thanks and you southerners think about us tonight,Wayne
rdstorer
What do you mean? "You Southerners think about us tonight. I am in Hampton, GA and it will get down to 32 tonight.Dick
Guest imported_daddy3jr8
Dick,Currently 10* and dropping fast with 20 -25 MPH wind behind it. Probably hit 0 here tonight. Will be in Hampton for race in March. If the temp. stays like this, maybe we could meet for a HOT ONE. Weather has always been decent for the race. Always drive the Reatta down there. Dick,if you can, try this on your Reatta. Shut engine off-leave key in-open door-push lock button-remove key-get out and close door. This sets the alarm off on mine. Is it just mine or do all Reattas do that?Think positive - THIS IS SNUGGLE WEATHER!Wayne
Guest imported_keystone
Hi everyoneThanks for the replys.I am still a little confused. So if I use ECON in the winter I will get cold fresh air? Or will it recycle air inside the car w/o running A/C unit? Many of the older GM cars had a Max cool button. Doest the Reatta have such a thing.ThanksKeystonePS Daddy3jr8 Send your e-mail address drigelgs@muohio.edu
Guest DTerry
In econ the A/C compressor will not run. It will maintain the temperature selected, if the selected temperature is warmer than outside air. It cannot - obviously - cool below outside air temp. Basically, it brings in outside air and warms it as necessary. All incoming air is from outside. As best I can tell from the FSM, the only time inside air is recirculated is when you have selected max cooling, by decreasing the desired temp in auto until it goes to "max" A/C. Same as pushing max cool button on a conventional system.
Guest DTerry
Oops. It just registered on my simple mind that yours is a '90. I haven't a clue. Mine is an '89, and that's the way it works...I think.
Guest Buick Mike
DTerry is correct. Push the temp down button... the selected temp will go down by one unit until it gets to 65, then it will drop to 60 and the blower will go to high. That is max cool mode.Max Cool... I like that... I may change my screen name.Mike
padgett
Since I do not smoke, I have been tempted to replumb the the HVAC "programmer" to always be on "recirculate" (which is what happens at MAX COOL and MAX WARM (aka 60F and 90F).Should just require moving a single hose - one with orange stripe - to tee off the sold black (poss violet stripe) feed line. See 1C-26 chart 6 in FSM.Suspect this would improve both heating and cooling but need to be certain the exhaust system has no leaks (why you cannot turn the fan off). Might interfere with defrost/defog since pulling air from interior so caveat y'all. (YMMV, Notary Sojack).
Guest DTerry
Okay, I dig caveat y'all and notary sojak, but YMMV has me baffled.

decembro
Hey Padgett, I think you might not like putting everything on recirc all the time. Reason for this is Saturn and others have separate recirc buttons to activate it in any mode you want. If recirc is left on the windows fog up like nobody's business. Probably just because of my own hot air I guess . Switch off the recirc and the windows clear almost instantly.Steve
