1951 Lincoln Hydra-Matic Transmission

I am restoring a 1951 Lincoln (series 74 - baby Lincoln) I have a problem with the hydra-matic transmission. (It grinds when I attempt to go into reverse.) I bought a 1949-1951 Lincoln Mercury overhaul manual. It gives information for the 1949-1950 Lincoln Hydra-matic, but nothing on the 1951. It also gives information on the 1951 Merc-O-Matic. My question is: Is the 1950 Lincoln Hydra-matic the same as the 1951 Lincoln Hydra-matic? If they are not the same, where do I get information on the 1951 Lincoln Hydra-matic? Thanks! Hi Arvie, not gospel but my sieve-like memory says that those transmissions were supplied by General Motors of all people, and it would probally be good to research that arcane location, not easy for Ford folks, good luck, Rolf

Years ago my buddy had a 52 Lincoln and it did have a GM hydramatic. When we rebulit it we bought parts at a Pontiac dealer. I had heard that there was a fire at the Ford transmission plant and they couldn't supply enough for their needs. Ford returned the favor a few years later when they supplied standard shift transmissions to Pontiac.
