Tried search function, and as usual can not find an appropriate word / phrase match for resolution....

Has anyone a cure / repair for a loose glass in an outside rear view mirror housing? My right mirror on both cars have stability problems frown.gif.

Thanks

Nic,

Assume you're referring to the whole "GUTS" of the Mirror Housing being loose. You have the Servo Motor setup in there that articulates the Mirror, it's mounted as I recall on three legs and screwed to the Mirror Housing. Sounds like a broken leg, if it were a horse it would be out to shoot it!

Best suggestion is removal of the right side mirror housing, flopping the glass around on the servo ratchets to get access to the screws and remove the Guts. Once you've got it apart I assume you're going to find one of the leg mouldings is broken. Perform a Super Glue repair and splint it if possible with some scrap plastic to restore the strength.

Best I can come up with,(other then sourcing a replacement!)

and good luck.

Thanks Greg....I think I know how that might have happened....gilfriend (or just girl...leave the friend business off) slamming door. And if I say something about it....oh well..............

I'll attempt repair in the Spring or ask Jim for a replacement...wonder if anyone would have a damaged housing with good guts?

Opps, forgot to ask above....is there a replacement gasket available for the mirror housing base?

Nic,

The gasket that goes between the Mirror Housing and the Vent Glass was supplied with a replacement Mirror I bought about 5 years ago. Do not know if the Gasket was ever offered separately.

I just got done replacing a broken right mirror with a replacement from Jim Finn. I dont think the internals were damaged on what I took off. If you're interested, I could probably part with it for a small fee (at least enough to cover postage). Let me know.
