Guest rcirilli
I have long been a believer that six ply side wall tires are the best to tow with. Someone I spoke to today, in the industry, told me that four ply are better because they don't build up as much heat. Has anyone else heard that? Doesn't sound right but that's why I'm throwing it out to you.
Guest
OK, Here goes. If you are refering to the tow vehicle, then you should figure the carrying capacity of the tires on the vehicle, inflate accordingly, and go from there, adding in the hitch weight of the trailer. I you are refering to the trailer, you MUST figure the TOTAL weight of the fully loaded tariler, and buy the tires that will carry this amount at a specific air pressure. If you want more specific info let me know, I have been in the industry for 28 years.
------------------
myhomepage&picturesofmycorvette
Guest
EZ68VET has it pretty well covered in the short reply. I will add, though, any tire underinflated, no matter what ply, will heat up. Look at the load range( it will tell you what that tire can carry weightwise) stamped on the tire and if the gross weight he refers to is more than the total on the four or six tires( 1 ton vehicle) you need to go up in your ply range.
Remember, you'll probably have more weight distributed on the rear tires unless you have real good egualizers on your hitch.
That's keeping it brief. There are many variables as he refered to, so I'm sure he can fill in any others questions you may have.
