66 Mystery Chevelle
I just picked up the Nov. issue of Cars and Parts magazine and though I did so because my friend's 69 Chevelle is on the cover and featured...I was pleased to see a nice two page write up on the AACA Grand National in Iowa also Two things struck me about the coverage though, well maybe three...1st. Is that mirrors I see under the one car (1904 Sandusky Roadster )? 2nd. I was surprised that the amount cars at the show was only 240?? Is that just b/c of the location?3rd. I was under the impression that at a Grand National, only 1st Place Senior level cars attended, vying for a Grand National award?? The story said 1st Place JR and Senior Cars were there, can you get a GN with only a JR award under your belt?? Maybe someone can enlighten me as to the GN set up, cars that attend and what awards can be won... and yes, I know that it is probably listed somewhere...but humor me Mike
Guest BruceW
Mike,Here is what the online judging manual http://www.aaca.org/judging/Section5.htm says about the Annual Grand National:Entrants in any AACA Annual Grand National Meet are limited to those vehicles that have acquired Senior Award Winner status in any year prior to the year of the A.G.N.M. All entrants in the A.G.N.M. must display the NATIONAL FIRST PRIZE plaque with the SENIOR TAB. Those Senior (Duryea) winners in Meets prior to 1979 may obtain their "retroactive" Senior Tabs by following the procedure as outlined in SECTION IV, I. NOTE: A SENIOR award winner may sometimes be referred to as a "SENIOR FIRST PLACE" winner. However, the correct terminology is "SENIOR AWARD WINNER". To once again clarify all of the National Meet trophy winning positions, review the following listing:a. JUNIOR: First, Second, Thirdb. SENIOR*-Awardc. A.G.N.M.** First, Second, Thirdd. A.G.N.M. SENIOR***.*To be a Senior, the vehicle must have won a FIRST Junior Award and display the National First Prize Winners plaque.**To be eligible for showing in an A.G.N.M., the vehicle must have won a Senior Award in any year prior to the year of the A.G.N.M., and must correctly display the Senior Tab with the National First Prize Winner plaque***Beginning with the 1992 year, all A.G.N.M. First Prize winners are eligible to compete for the A.G.N.M. SENIOR award at any subsequent A.G.N.M. The A.G.N.M. SENIOR award is a Senior Tab to be affixed behind the A.G.N.M. First Prize winner plaque at some location on the vehicle. The trophy is a walnut board with appropriate cloisonné' and brass plaques affixed along with a small cloisonné' medallion similar to a Preservation wheel-tab with a dated backing plate. The A.G.N.M. SENIOR award can be won repeatedly, with the repeat awards being the small dated medallion which is to be mounted on the original trophy board. A.G.N.M. SENIOR winners remain eligible for the Preservation award as well as national awards.
Guest SalG (Sal Grenci)
Bruce, I did a little edit to make your link work. Do not put brackes around a URL if you want to make it a hot link, if you do the software thinks you want it to be text. Sal

imported_Bob Hill
I think you misread the article - the article said "those car who have won their First Junior and Senior Awards"... Granted that could be a little confusing but maybe because I knew what was meant that I interpreted it to mean that the cars had won both awards.BOB
