PARKING BRAKE RATCHET

I AM AWARE THAT IT HAS TO BE PUMPED TO BE SET,THAT IS THE SAME QUESTION I POSED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER TONIGHT AFTER WORK,HE DIDNT HAVE AN ANSWER AND THE MECHANIC THAT WORKED ON THE CAR WAS GONE FOR THE DAY.IM BEING TOLD THAT THE BRACKET FOR THE DASH ON THE LEFT SIDE HAS TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE RATCHET.WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR IT HAD A NEW PA INSPECTION STICKER ON IT.ONCE WE TRANSFERRED THE TITLE AND I GOT PLATES PUT IT IN MY DRIVEWAY AND SEEN THE MIDDLE BRAKE CABLE HANGING.FIGURED I WOULD REPLACE ALL OF THE CABLES RATHER THAN DO ONE AND THEN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE OTHERS.ONCE AT THE GARAGE I WAS SHOWN THE REAR BRAKE CABLES THAT WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT.I WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THE RATCHET NEEDED REPLACED ALSO.IM A RETIRED DETECTIVE NOT A MECHANIC.

Pat,

I do have one out if you actually need one but don't remember what it took to get it out. I agree they don't go bad very often.

Hi Jim, I'm new to the forum, but it appears that I do need to replace the parking brake ratchet in my '90 coupe. Several dealers in the Dallas Texas area have been unable to locate a replacement, and I was wondering if you still have one available, or know of someone who does.
