What did you buy at Hershey in 2003?

Just a few small things for the 31 Ford..... standard tudor front rubber mat to cover the deluxe carpeting because of all the driving we do... a heavy duty alternator (for a spare),...wiper components, .....marble shift knob.....plus somethnig for Di. I spent the rest of the time browsing.. and sitting down with a number of the DFers for interesting chats.

I did look at a 1914 Ford Toruing.... a 1965 Thunderbird convertible... and the 57 Chevy 4 door hardtop in Ricks garage (like I could ever afford any of the beautiful motorized artwork that comes out of Rick's shop). However, Di wants to purchase another house in the near future so she told me that I could not bring any cars home with me this year. I can't complain as this is the first time she has said that in the 18 years of marriage. She loves antique automobiles and the antique automobile hobby as much as I do.

Two transmissions, a set of horns, two sets of stainless steele trim rings, fenderwelt, frame paint, engine paint, manifold paint, a rim, a box full of rod bearings, 2 Hershey meet T-shirts, some overpriced hot dogs, overpriced cokes, paint chips, had some spare keys made along with a key ring, a rear view mirror, engine decals, '79 'Lil Red Express door decals, spare headlight switches, exchange manual, a set of hood emblems, bumper bolts.

This was one of our cheaper trips to Hershey. This is the first time in several years where we didn't buy tires.

2 car show badges from the state of Wyoming, 1 motorminder(?) for a large brass era automobile(my first purchase for the car I don't have), 1 license plate from Ridgefield, Conn(the flea guy was a tough bargainer ), and in the town of Middletown; 1 150 year old tree, a cinderblock wall, and 2 junk cars(they looked like junk to me, Rick. They weren't painted or anything). And something no money could buy, the chance to meet my internet friends. Thanks guys. Wayne

For Mom:

I found it strange walking the flea market looking for items for my Mom's car. I've spent the last 20 years looking for Willys-Overland and Chevy II parts. Now I'm looking for Chevy II and Dodge Coronet parts.

I didn't get to go this year. smiliez.de_2431.gif But while you guys were there I found on eBay the only true NOS horn I've ever seen for my TR6. It came Tuesday. It's the low tone horn, and it's still in the original Clear Hooters brand box. In 15 years of parts shopping for this car I don't think I've ever even seen a Clear Hooters box, let alone the correct horn inside!

A 1934 Pontiac grill brought the van and trailer to a halt before I got to my flea market space! Later, on my first quick walkaround on Tuesday I found a choise pair of 1927 T Roadster/Touring doors. However, the true "Find" of the meet was a G.P. Bugatti tail section. I'll have some info on this item after this weekends Vintage Races are over.

I bought some Model A tools, a tail light, a couple of books, and put the down payment on a LeBarron Bonney interior kit.

Unfortuntely, after having a certain Virginian truck driver show up here for the DF party last Wenesday night and smash into everything in site, I couldn't afford to buy anything at Hershey this year. And here I thought I was safe having randjflo60 out there guiding him in turning his truck around, but that was silly of me. So now the big question is, How many DFer's does it take to help Wayne park his truck? And Wayne, I told you that Boyce Motometer you bought from that Wyoming vendor in the Red Field wasn't for a late model Peterbuilt, no matter what he told you. You need to watch out for that guy. I've had dealings with him before myself.

Bruce, I still think you would look fantasic driving around in that 57 Chevy. It has you written all over it. I also feel certain that the car's owner could come up with some creative and less painful ways for you to buy it.

I must admit though, Hershey was very entertaining. Being that I was working across from LeBaron Bonney's spaces, it was a site to see a certain Model A guy from Savanna, nearly break down in tears while writing a deposit check for his interior. I never seen anyone shake like that before! I keep telling you Hal, it's only going to hurt once!

Lot of little bits here an there, picked up 2 radios for a friends 51 Pontiac and a head gasket set for him, already rebuilt one radio and got it working. A couple of NOS badges for the 54 Packard and a high compression cylinder head, a sun engine analyzer for $10, welders helmet, and spent about $100 in Chocolate World. And So On....

HI Rick:

Boy how some friends quickly forget? First off your price to paint this Model A friends Ford was too much & he painted it himself. Having very little experience he called you & you told him what to do, & how to paint it.

The difference in his cost paid for the interior. I dont know why he was shaking writing the check. The interior was free. Guess he forgot. Jack

Nobody bought me anything! I feel so, so so unloved, sniff. If Your-a-nut was here I know he'd buy me 3 Amphicars, a NOS transmission and deliver them for about $900. I'm taking my toys and going swimming (right after work!)

I am thinking of going next year, I'll just bring the beach knobby tires, my Wheaties and a AAA card in case I need a tow truck!

Guest Hal Davis (MODEL A HAL)

Jack,

Considering all that, it was probably better than free. I don't know exactly what it costs to have a car painted, but I know it's more than I have. I certainly have to thank you and Rick for your advice. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

As far as the interior goes, I must have picked the absolute worst case scenario for Model A cars. You wish you had a Model A truck when it comes time to buy the interior. No back seat. No center fold down arm rest. No rear carpet. For that matter, no front carpet. I bet they love to see us Town Sedan guys coming.

Hey Jack,

Actually, last Saturday at the show, I was paid for my services in helping Hal. I was personally handed another installment payment by Hal's wife. Two more homemade Pecan Pies, a Peach Pie and a big hug from Karen! {And Jack, they were soooooo good!} It just may be one of the best paying paint jobs I was ever involved with.

Rick

Wayne, are you sure you don't mean a row boat instead of boots?

Rick

As if missing your Hershey group party wasnt enough, now this.

Youre good, inviting me when you did, knowing all along I was going to be gone & the Peach Pie was all yours, & then a hug from Karen the baker.

I will have a suprise for you next year if we get up, now that I know when to be there. Just call me Harry, HA

Hal:

I believe Rick on the shaking bit. You were afraid Karen was going to see how much you were writing the check for. Too bad we couldnt get together, but was 3:00 AM when we passed exit 102. Jack

I guess i got away cheep then for the paint job on my Packard, i bought the paint and a friend who owns a body shop had his painter come in and paint it two tone for $125, but i charged him $100 to do a 4 wheel brake job on his car and replace a couple of brake lines.

I didn't find any parts but a 1960 Chevy 4 door hardtop drove past me that had me drooling. It was going to the auction in the "giant" center.

But, I did buy chicken fingers and fries (twice) and a sausage sandwich with peppers and onions.

Sal,

No, I wasn't wearing a name tag; he was an old fashion business man who just went with his feelings about people - hard to believe coming from a dealer. That will teach me to make an offer, which he had refused, but then called me at the end of the day on my cell phone to say the car was mine.

Always enjoy Rick's annual party.
