"Check Your Texas License Plate Frames"

Dave, you have NO idea! In Texas, my 16 year old son was driving home in his new / old Camero, Red, when a local Colleyville cop followed him into his neighborhood. The cop waited to turn on his lights until just before Jonathan got to his drive way. He got out, drew his gun and arrested my son on charges of drug dealing, assault and not having a front license. Fortunately Jonathan called his Mother (a REAL force of nature there!) while coming to a stop and allowed her to listen in. The upshot was that they released him after dragging him to jail, handcuffing him forcefully enough to damage the radial nerve in his left hand, and scaring the hell out of him (which is like throwing water on an electrical fire...oh my no). No law suites, since we frown on petty litigation, but we did manage to get an apology from the Chief of Police and the Mayor. The cop in question was fired. (there was a lot more in this than I can tell ).

But my boy still had to pay the fine for not having a front license plate. So as you can imagine, every time we saw a car without one we wondered why they weren't being pulled over. Seemed rather selective to me.

BTW - I support (even on my measily income) many important Police leagues. I like the police and do what I can for them. But I am also a Citizen and Patriotic. I believe a Patriotic Citizen has a duty, and the right, to point out inconsistencies and problems with our system. To not be vigilent is to be a poor citizen and unworthy of the honor. So stand up and be heard. If you are told you are being a traitor to your country because you hold a different view, then stick your chin out and give them more. Apathy is our WORST enemy. OOPS sorry...got derailed

Randall, I'm reminded of an incident that happened in the 1950's when my dad and I were traveling south on old Highway 23 in central Ohio. We came to a stop light at about 3 AM and then when it turned green we proceeded on when a police car pulled behind with lights flashing. It seems my dad drove past an alleyway with a unlit stop sign attached on a post hidden by tree branches. My dad was hauled before a J.P. and fined but being a non-resident had to pay cash or go to jail. Fast forward to about 1974 when I was a Provincial Conservation Officer working on a Rondeau Bay of lake Erie. I happened across a group fishing in a boat with Ohio registry. I asked for licences but one fellow instead pulls out a badge about the size of a garbage can lid and explains he's a cop and din't bother to buy a licence(wink wink). Guess what......the cop was from the same town that had the speed trap many years before. Non-residents at the time had to pay cash bail or go to jail and I wasn't in the mood to be nice. I never liked a cop who "dropped tin" anyway so he got a hefty fine and my dad was delighted when I told him who I pinched. Justice delayed is justice denied but not in this case. End of story.
