Guest BruceW Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Sal,Sorry I couldn't make it either. I told Peter J beforehand that it was unlikely that I could. Was at the meet since Tuesday but seems every year something makes it necessary for me to be home by Friday.. and on Saturday, I had been asked to attend the 40th Birthday of my childhood friend I grew up next door to and have known for 36 of those years. One of those once ina lifetime occasions.Remember... Quality is always better than quantity. There were only 5 people there.. but they were DFers... so there was more class in that one little meeting than the rest of the public on the showfield combined!
Guest SalG (Sal Grenci) Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 I was at Hershey since Tuesday, and I would have left if I was not going to be at the DF meeting. Hershey is such a long meet, a lot of people are on the way out by midday Saturday. Maybe we should set a different day and time.
Guest BruceW Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 In the past, we have been lucky to have a location to meet on Wednesday night (i.e. Rick Hoover's shop) and that is greatly appreciated by all. However I wouldn't want Rick to think he HAS to keep hosting the DFers each year. Any time that it becomes an inconvenience, I am sure we could find another location.Consider that it requires a lot of time from Rick:1. his time to be there as host for the meeting2. time to clean his shop3. time to purchase and set out snacks and drinks4. time to pull some cars into the garage and take off pieces so it makes it looks like he is working (he he...JUST KIDDING RICK!) Many thanks to Rick Hoover for opening up his shop the past few years as a gathering place for the DFers. I am sure that all of the attending DFers appreciate the gesture (not to mention the cold Yuengling too!).
Guest Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 i was going to go but, Wed night I got free tickets to the Yankee/ Boston game at did not get to hershey until 4am on Thursday.Saturday, I filled the 1950 buick up at 7:30am and put 10 gallons of disel and got half way to the show field and had a pretty blue cloud following us... So, back to the gas station and pulled the plug under the tank and drain the 20 gallons. I should have taken it to the show field and drain it there..... it was a crappy location. The pump at the Citgo east of hershey has the old two hose pumps with the disel on unleaded on the same side, I grabed the first hose I saw.... but I did notice the lata foam in the neck of the tank and noted it as odd....
ex98thdrill Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Wayne,Sorry I didn't get to spend more time with you. I had a CD back at the car with pictures of almost every car from the Metropolis meet and now I've got pictures of everything at the museum and several of the cars at Hershey.
R W Burgess Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Yeh, I'm sorry too, Pat. My work week really screwed up my fun, that's for sure. One thing I want to relate that Pedro told me. He said some lady came by the DF site at the scooters yesterday, looked at Pedro's sign, and said,"You guys need to get a life." Poor woman doesn't know how to get rid of stress in her life. That's a problem we'll never have. We have too many buddies to help us in times of need and we take hardly anything seriously....unless somebody's picking on my driving habits, RICK! Wayne
Guest BruceW Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Wayne,Pick on your driving habits?? I doubt anyone would do that. You did fine in the confined area around Rick's shop. That tree?? Heck I bet it was at least 150 years old and probably needed to be knocked down anyway. Those two cars under the rear axles??I bet they were only some old parts cars that just happened to look like AACA Grand National Meet Winners. And that gaping hole in the corner of Rick's garage??Now he just has another drive-thru entrance into the shop.So don't worry... you did fine.......
R W Burgess Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 Yes Bruce, I always know I can depend on a friend when support is sorely needed. Wayne
Guest SalG (Sal Grenci) Posted October 13, 2003 Posted October 13, 2003 That is correct, she said we needed a life. I think the recent Euro... and Master... problems have put a negitive feeling into some of the new people.
Peter J.Heizmann Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 Howdy, folks...At the DF'ers meeting, it was me, SalG, and, Diz...I may be totally off base, however, I believe, especially this year with the huge crowds coupled with DF participants busy answering questions around their cars, we may have to re-think the traditional 1:00 meeting. In the course of the week, many of the DF regulars stopped by at the vendor site of Howard Scotland, Ron Barnett, and, Chuck Carisch. Personally, that's where we all seemed to congregate. Do not construe their vendor area to be a future meeting place. Heck, last year I advertised for the 1:00 meeting, then, totally forgot about it as I was talking to so many people.Guess we can put it on the back-burner and plan something different for next year.Dizzy brought along photos of his drag racing days. He loaned them to me to scan. I will do it this week and send the originals back to Diz. Very interesting racing career, Diz...I will forward the scanned photos for posting. I believe all of the forum folks would appreciate a little history on the photos. Up to you, Diz. (Much appreciated. Sorry the DF Meeting was little attended, but, really enjoyed meeting you, not to mention the conversation.)It was also great to see Howard (HVS), Ron Barnett (Ronbarn), Chuck Carisch (ccar), Bruce Wheeler (Bruce W), Sal (SalG), Rick Hoover, Ron Flory (randjflo60), Dave (Novaman), Earl Beauchamp (vabuickman), Pat & Nelson Thorpe (ex98thdrill), Bob Giles (divco100), Ron Green, John Harvey, good 'ole Wayne Burgess, Bob Swanson (1937hd). A special pleasure was meeting Joris, of whom, persevered to get here from the Netherlands. Very nice meeting you, Joris.(Of course, folks, I cannot forget the lady that told me, Diz, and, SalG to get a life. Really nice lady, I think. The jury is still out on that episode.)Regards, Peter J.
ex98thdrill Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Yeah Peter, I showed up at the meeting, but when there was only two of us, I told him that if the rest of the group showed up, to send someone over to the car to get me. No one did, so I figured the meeting was dead. I saw you on Wednesday when we were looking for parts, and Friday I saw you when we were waiting for a vendor to go home and bring back what we needed. Aside from that, it seems that the best time to do this stuff is after dark. We got to the swap meet every morning by 7, and usually didn't leave until after 7 each night. We never made it to the auction, judges school or anything else. Friday afternoon we worked on the car until dark, Saturday we unloaded at 6:30, parked the car, went to judges breakfast, went back to make some final touches on the car, did my judging, covered each other for breaks, and the show was over. Another option might be to have the DF meeting after 3:00 and spend a couple of hours hanging out together. By doing this, the crowds would be mostly gone, and we can all get together while we're waiting for the traffic to die down. By the time the get together was over, there would be less congestion in the trailer area too.
DizzyDale Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Dear Peter,Where does a REALLY NICE LADY get off talking to us like that? All she does is read all our posts, then when she gets the chance, she throws GET A LIFE at us.Maybe she should start posting.....would she be considered lifeless?,she was looking a little GREY,i sure hope she is ok......diz
Peter J.Heizmann Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 Hi, Diz...you got me, bud. I think that was nice of you to be concerned for her health. Very humanitarian... One thing I noticed, she made her "blurt" and sort of took off. hmmm--like on a pre-planned mission.(Glad of one thing...I'm not spending my life with her!)Regards and thanks,Peter J.
DizzyDale Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Dear Peter,WE have to make this stuff good as the newest member of our FAN club is probably reading this. From now on SHE will be known as SADIE SACK,as for your ON A MISSION comment,we can only hope she is a Kamakaze Pilot.diz
Guest BruceW Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Could you guys have misunderstood the little old lady?Maybe she was lonely and coming onto one of you .. and actually said you need to "get a wife".Was she getting real close and winking when she said it?
DizzyDale Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Dear Bruce,I do believe i saw an unidentified DF er catch up with her in the area of the car corral when her wooden leg fell off.diz
Peter J.Heizmann Posted October 14, 2003 Author Posted October 14, 2003 Hi, Bruce...Nice seeing you again.Wish that was the case. She (Sadie Sack...thanks for the handle Diz) was actually grinning and taking off at the same time. Granted, you are doing yourself a favor by being a little off-center for doing what we do with old cars, not to mention being on the forum publishing one's condition to the world, however, Sadie Sack had more of a problem than I can handle.Regards, Peter J.
DizzyDale Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Dear Peter,Not to beat a dead horse, all we can hope for is when were in the local dept. store searching for a life, Sadie will be there looking for a sense of humor.diz
novaman Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 I got done with judging, found my dad and headed for NC. Apperntly got a little earlier start than normal. Normally I pull in here about 12:15 AM Sunday morning. Got here about 10:30PM. Maybe that was because I was running 70MPH+ down 15 & 29 through PA, MD, VA and NC. Truck was acting up again about a half hour after I left. Found that if I kept it 70 or above it ran fine.We wanted to get back home as this was our preacher's last Sunday here and the was a party for him.I find the 1:00 meeting time tough to make. I did enjoy getting to meet and talk to Peter and Pat at Howard's space. Also enjoyed Hoover's party. Thanks Rick.I like the idea of a register book so you know who's there. My flea market spces are open for gatherings. They are in the white field, the 3&4th spaces(2nd vendor)on your left as you enter the White field from the east end of the red field. (I should state that is until they decide to replace the white field with entertainment facilties.)Maybe we could have a late afternoon gathering on say friday like 3-5pm area.
ex98thdrill Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 As what Rodney Dangerfield said in Caddieshack (1981 movie) you could've said to her what he said to one of the ladies in the movie."Hey baby I'll bet you were something else back in the days before electricity"
R W Burgess Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 David, Nice seeing you at Rick's. I've got pictures to post, but are still to tired to do the deed. It'll get there. And I ain't touching the Sadie Sack story, Guys. I'm in enough trouble for even being with you guys this past week. Ruined my reputation people. Wayne
Al Smeraldo Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 Sorry I missed you guys. I didn't get to Hershey until Thurs. so couldn't get to Rick's. On Saturday I was working with Doug Drake doing the program for the kids at 1pm. Al
Guest imported_SKYSTHELIMIT Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Sorry I couldn't make it. I had a wedding to go to on saturday. I was only at Hershey thursday but planned on coming back friday but my foot was killing me. I searched out a couple of guys at the swap meets gave up on the rest and went to the stadium to check out the cars. Buy the time I finished walking around the cars I could barley stand on my foot. My big mistake not taking the wheel chair, thought I'd be fine. I haven't been active on the forum for a while also because after I got back from the wedding I found the drop ceiling in the living room fell down. Took me some time to clean up that mess. I still got half the ceiling to put back up. Speaking of Hershey did anyone here of the accident in the car corral! I was standing right next to the car when it happened. If not this is the scoop. One guy was backing up his car into position. He thought the people behind him were directing him into his spot. They were just pointing around like this is over here and thats over this way. He ended up backing up into the right door of someones Alfa Romeo. What a bummer that had to be. Take your car all the way to Hershey gets there safe and sound, you expect it to be safe while showing it and someone backs up into it. I'm attaching a picture of the damage. It's hard to see so I circled it. SEE ATTACHMENT
R W Burgess Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Howard said you had nice legs(in the reflection) Scott. I'd suggest you wear long pants the next time. wayne
Guest imported_SKYSTHELIMIT Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 The guy in the reflection isn't me. I think that was the guy that backed up into the car. I had a pair of jeans on.
R W Burgess Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Howard appreciates that Sky. He caught the mailman just before he left with your gift. Wayne
