Guest
Can anyone help me find some information on the Gray Motor Corporation other than what is in the Standard Catalog? I've got wind of a 1925 Gray Touring that might be for sale and it intrigues me but I'd like to know more about it. It's in really good, restored condition, cosmetically. It won't take much to get it running but it does need some help. It has a Model T carburetor on it and I know that's wrong. I remember a couple of years ago there was an article in the "Antique Automobile" about a Gray roadster owned by a member of the AACA. Any help would be appreciated, particularily from a Gray owner, although I realize there can't be many Gray's around.Thanks. [color:"red"]
Guest
From Georgano: Gray Motor Corp., Detroit, MI, 1922-1926: During the 1920's, 2 new makes, Star&Gray, tried to win a share of the mass market dominated by the Ford Model T. The Gray was in fact made by former employees of Ford, who included the head of the Gray Corporation, FL Klingensmith, & was similar to Ford in several features of engine&chassis. A side-valve, 4-cylinder, 2.7-litre engine was used. Unlike Ford, the Gray's springing was by conventional quarter-elliptics at front&rear. Front-wheel brakes were offered in 1926, but that year was its last. The company's grandiose plans, which included making nearly a quarter million cars in the 1st full year of production, at $490 for the touring car & $760 for the coach, were never fully realised. Guest
Well, there was a well known former collector locally who had a Gray roadster. He described it as a model T Ford clone without the durability and consistent performance one expects from a Ford.I remember one day years ago when we had to drive 6 miles to a car club picnic, she overheated and consistently missed spark on # 4 cylinder. But please do not accept this as validation of the car's faults, simply a unique and memorable experience of my youth.............................. 1925 Gray
I own a 1925 Gray touring currently undergoing restoration. Do you still happen to have the above mentioned manifold? I'd be interested. Thanks.
Guest Hafi62
Greetings from South AustraliaMay I introduce myself as a newcomer to this forum.I am currently restoring a 1923 Gray Model N buckboard which was created from a tourer. The mechanicals have been completed, and I am currently preparing the body for painting. As I have discovered, there are probably more Grays remaining in Australia than in the USA. In my search for parts I have purchased a relatively large amount of secondhand Gray parts, the remaining mechanical parts from at least 5 cars after a previous restorer had made a Model N coupe from what he had collected. Sorry, there are few body parts. If you are looking for drivetrain parts, I may be able to help with both Model N and Model O parts. E-mail me with your request and who knows? I may be able to help.Regards from Beetaloo Valley, South AustraliaJohn B
