Guest
Here's what the NAPA/Monroe Shock and Struts Catalog has to say about the Sensa-Trac struts:Riviera: 1986-89 71800 F 71801 R 1990-91 71854 F 71801 RReatta: 1988 71800 F 71966 R 1989-91 71854 F 71966 R F is Front R is RearFor wondering minds, the oddball 1988 Reatta front strut is Type B2, 10-3/4" body length, 17-3/4" extended lengh. The later Reatta front strut is Type B5, 14" body length, 17-7/8" extended length. The B2 looks like it has a larger spring seat than the B5.The Riviera has totally different rear struts due to the Riviera using rear air struts. The 71800, 71801 is also used on Allante, Eldorado, Seville, and Toronado. The 71966 is also used on the Allante.
Guest kennyw
I bought REATTA struts on ebay. Now you tell me that I have to go and check the part number. Will either strut fit the 88 or will I have to buy another set if the part number isn't right.....? thanks..........Ken
Guest
The Monroe strut numbers only serve two purposes:Shows what year Buicks and what Car models use the same part.Allows ordering of Monroe struts by part number. The Monroe part numbers have nothing to do with other manufacturer strut parts numbers and nothing to do with eBay. Guest
I just had new struts put in my 1990 at Pep Boys for a total price of $262.00 for everything. Great price, the closest quote patrickhagen@mn.rr.com to that was $459.00 at another very good local (Minneapolis) shop. Problem is the car now rides like an 1980s camaro u[p front. The struts that were installed are gabril Pro Rider Premium gas Struts. Am I missing something or are they. Would going OEM be a solution. My car only has 50,000 miles on it and I want that PREMIUM RIDE that I have always had back. They will replace the struts for the difference in the cost of the OEM parts. Guest
I'm new to forum, I'm looking for alternative for my 89 rear struts, the monroe 71966 are not available, any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Ronnie
We are all in the same boat. A suitable replacement for the rear struts is yet to be found.
Barney Eaton
You can substitute using the rear struts for a Riviera, Toronado, Seville, and Eldorado. They all have self leveling... the Reatta does not. You can cap the air lines or hook them up but only charge them with 5 psi.
Guest
I thought only it would work on a 1988 reatta???
Guest
The bore diameter is the same??
Guest
I think I found a solution, I posted to other reatta owners forms. I think most people are on multiple forums. Please share and save a reatta!!!

Guest
Sorry for confusion Ronnie, not solution but a idea of a solution, more of us sharing info of success and failures of the basics the better off we are. I started in this forum and you said we are all in same boat. Very true words!!
Ronnie
Yeah, the more people trying to find a solution the better.

padgett
Allantes are said to use the same strut so a market exists.
nmhenry
Could the Riviera air struts be used by plumbing them up with a valve like the old air shocks or hooking them to a 12v compressor like in some of the air bag kits?

No need to add anything to use them. But good luck finding them.
Zoltanb2
I just happen to have a set complete with all the mounting stuff, I had these on my silver reatta for about 1 week when it got wrecked. They are like new. I will take the highest offer if any body wants them, plus shipping or pick-up in Lovettsville Va. They are heavy and I am open to ways of shipping. I also have a pile of other parts my wife says they got to go.

padgett
Would be a lot more potential market for the -081 since easy to cap off the air lift part.
